Aging Fab Asks: Do You Use Eye Cream?

In talking to a few friends this weekend about a great eye cream I just tried, I was shocked. Shocked to find out that most of them skip the eye cream step. All of them thought it was a waste of time and wondered if they really need it.

Long story short, an eye cream is very much different than a regular cream. It is a step we can not afford to skip. The delicate eye area has different needs than the rest of our face and neck.

I would love to get a lot of feedback on this. Do you use eye cream? If you do, why – and if you do not – why not? Please answer in the comments.

I do….I have been using Avon’s Anew eye cream (which I like) but recently got a sample of Clinique’s Repairwear for Eyes in a GWP. I’ll be taking that on vacation as it is small!

  2. Jo says:

Have been using eye cream morning and night for at least 20 years (age 51). I have spent up to $100 for an Estee Lauder cream and as little as $9 for an eye cream done up by a woman who evidently works out of her home. My undereye area is as dry as a bone and I can’t imagine not using an eye cream.

  3. I have to use eyecream(s). I use one, Skyn Iceland, for my undereye puffiness and another one, Boots brand for the upper eyelid. I have used all kinds of brands but find that I can’t live without the Skyn Iceland.

  4. Laurie says:

I use Lancome Platinéum Eye & Lip and Avon Anew Ultimate Contouring Eye System. I don’t know if they really do anything for the skin around my eyes, but I have found the Lancome cream smoothed out/plumped up the fine lines around my lips. I rub it on my lips just before bed. I started using an eye cream because I’m 41 and figure I really should. I like the whole Avon Anew Ultimate system.

  5. Cinnamon says:

I have been using eye cream since my teens. I have used everything from Rachel Perry to Chanel over the years. Since hitting the middle age mark, eye cream has become an integral part of my routine. I honestly can’t say that one cream has been better than another or why I haven’t found one brand and stuck to it.

  6. Heike says:

I do not use an eye cream, beeing dermatologist in Germany (have my own practice) I know that skin is skin – so if face cream is not good for my eyes it si not good for the rest of the face too. Only difference ist how we should apply it – around the eyes only gentle tapping. If you compare ingredients from some samecomsetic line face and eye cream (you shoudl know basic chemistry for that) you wont discover any big difference and am i sorry to hear you beleive in marketing bug pushing you to use always more and more products.
I am 45 and look like a 35 years old woman and never use an eye cream. I guess I am just a bed target for commercials.

  7. WendyB says:

Nope…but then I’m really bad with products, plus I still have very oily skin, so I’m not dry under there. I must confess, the only product I believe in to really help lines in a measurable way is doctor-prescribed Retin-A.

  8. Amy says:

Yes, I’m 27 years old and I use Olay’s Total Effects eye cream. I don’t want to spend alot of money on an expensive eye cream and I feel it works alright. I tried using Avon’s retroactive repair eye serum but it actually gave me fine lines! It’ll be the last time I use an anti-wrinkle product, because I don’t have any wrinkles yet. I will continue to use anti-aging products though.

  9. Heike says:

    WendyB. – I agree.

  10. Josi Lauritzen says:

I agree with Wendi….after serving coffee to a bunch of plastic surgeons a few years back I asked them “what was the best thing for wrinkles bar none” and they said…Retin-A. They said get it as close to the eyes as you can tolerate….after leaving MD Forte a few months ago I have been on pxtion retinoid Ziana…my eye area has improved 10 Fold..with surprisingly little irritation..I use these in combination with a really moisturizing oil-based eye cream when I need it and SPF during the day of course…..works like a charm girl!!!!

  11. Genia Carter says:

I always use eye cream. I apply it after I use my toner and after the eye cream I use moisturizer on my face and neck.

  12. Lucinda says:

I do not use an eye cream and never have. At 53, most people think I’m in my late 30s or early 40s. I attribute this to loads of sunblock and decent genetics. Didn’t Paula Begoun debunk this eye cream thing ages ago?

  13. Teri says:

Wow! I am so glad to hear that most of you are using eye cream. I personally think that eye cream is an essential part of the skin care routine. I know that they can have more targeted ingredients and are more gentle for the sensitive eye area.

As far as Retin-A creams, I think I need to start looking at them, with my doctor again.

  14. kara says:

i started using an eye cream when i was 23 and first bought Clinique’s Repairwear Intensive eye cream. what a disappointment! it’s fairly effective as a moisturizer but that’s the only thing it does. i had started to develop these very tiny fine lines right underneath my bottom eyelashes- something no one besides me could have ever noticed but it panicked me none the less! i had used tanning beds and smoked since i was 15 and those near-invisible lines really woke me up. since then i haven’t gotten any sun and have used an eye cream religiously. my hands down favorite is Prevage Eye, it’s very expensive but since i’ve started using it those fine lines have completely disappeared AND it is the ONLY thing that has ever helped with my super dark, genetic undereye circles. i’d say they’ve diminished about 50% which is HUGE for me! also, it’s a fantastic moisturizer and a real treat to apply. i love it!

  15. Gretchen says:

Yes, I use an eye cream. God, yes! Have experimented with Clarins (love the eye gel), Olay (too many choice any more), Benefit, Boots, and Lancome (ridiculously expensive). I have dark circles, but few lines so am looking for solution to the dark circles. Happy with Clarins and Benefit.

  16. Josi Lauritzen says:

oooo..I want to hear more about Prevage Eye…been dying to get my hands on some of the pxtion stuff but it is way high!!!

  17. Merideth says:

Yes, I use eye cream. It used to make the skin around my eyes brighter and fresher, but now that I’m 40 all it does is keep fine lines at bay. : ( I like the usual suspects … Avon Anew, Clinique.

  18. Teri says:

As I am lightening up on the makeup colors for Spring, I am noticing too that my under eye skin is much darker. Not sure if the lighter shades are brining them out or not. My goal is to locate a heavy duty brightening eye cream.

  19. Betsy says:

    Yes, yes,yes.

Mary Kay Eye Firming Cream. Pat never rub. I wouldn’t dream of going without eye cream, ever!
