“I can’t stand the phrase ’senior citizen,’” says Mathieson, who’s heard it too many times in her 60 years. “I find that our society right now is pervasive with that kind of imagery. Gray, mauve, pale pink . . . and whenever they have a senior citizen kind of event or Web site, it’s those colors.
“Darn it, I’m part of all of this and I resent it and I don’t want it,” says Mathieson, who’s breaking the old mold and writing guidelines for looking “Forever Cool” (Thompson Peak Publishing, 2006, $22.95). Subtitled “How to achieve ageless, youthful and modern personal style,” her book steers readers to flattering fashions appropriate for vibrant men and women who once thought they should never trust anyone over 30.”
Well, I certainly didn’t pick pink for my site… but I was tempted lol… but I like this milky chocolate pink that I finally decided on. I think it was the chocolate on the brain that finalized my choice. The minute I saw the color, I knew it was perfect. I have yet to see another site come up with something even close!
And the book… I will be checking it out. I want to be “forever cool” too!

I hadn’t seen this book, but I’m going to have to look for it at the bookstore next time I go. It looks fun. Don’t you think that many Boomer women are at a time in their lives where they are finding – or have found – their own unique sense of style? I know that my own style has evolved, partly because of changing fashions, but also because of the changes in my body. Sometimes I need a little help to look the way I want to in a clingy skirt or pair of pants, and I’m finding that some of the “shaping” garments on the market can really smooth things out. I keep experimenting with different brands? Any recommendations?
I think my sense of style is constantly changing. I definitely have a lot more attitude than I once did when it comes to style. I think that I’m a lot pickier. And then I have a daughter who I always drag shopping with me so that I always have a second opinion. Sometimes I am too picky! She should really leave her job as a landscaper and become a personal shopper for those of us who are in this Boomer generation. She has a great eye!
I like your blog… I am past the mid point of 40 and decided that when I grow up that I want to be a co-host on The View…
I think we have enough teenage fashion icons these days… why can’t we have (mature) women as icons as well?? Women are beautiful at any age… if they don’t dress in potato sacks.
Keep on Blogging.
