Squalane is derived from sharks, and, regrettably, some companies still do use this form. But it is also derived from olives and this is the form that Kiehl's uses. Actually, you’re both right. Squalane is an oil extracted from the liver of a deep sea species of shark and it is frankly a repulsive ingredient. Kiehl should remove this product. I am telling everyone I know.
