Night Sweats.

It may be a menopause moment, or pre-menopause moment - whatever. But I am struggling with the night sweats - ugh.

image I have been getting the night sweats for a little over a year now, but only two or three times a month, usually right before that special monthly time. But now, I have been getting them two or three times a week.

Has anyone else struggled so much with night sweats. I am only 40, and I do not have a doctors’ appointment for a few months. Being that this is not something urgent, I do not see the need to be going in any earlier. It is more of a bother. And I cannot help but think on the positive side - maybe I am shedding some toxins or water weight.

Overall, I am tired of waking up drenched and having to wash my sheets almost daily. I did buy some great wicking pajamas, but I hate wearing a full set of pj’s to bed, when a tee will do.

Suggestions?

    Teri,
Hi, I have them too and I am only 41. I have been getting them since my last kid at 35 and yes, they are a pain in the you know what. Your doctor will probably tell you that it is a hormonal thing and suggest birth control pills to even out your hormones. I did not want to go back on the pill what so ever so I really just put up with night sweats and open a window. Sometimes I feel like I have actually had a workout in my sleep as drenched as I am but unfortunately there is not a whole lot that can be done, that I know of anyway. Hang in there.

Western doctors kept telling me to cut back on my alcohol consumption (I don’t drink!), so I eventually went to a Chinese doctor, and took Chinese medicine for about six months. Makes western medicine almost taste yummy - but it _worked_. I had heaps of energy, and I stopped being so clammy.

Kristen - Birth Control Pill are not an option for me. After my first kiddo, I just could not use them anymore as they made my monthly migraines twice weekly.

I really wish there were some kind of supplement to help us out with these. I know they make them for when you are in menopause, but how about us sufferers of the pre-menopause symptons.

Anne - I would love to find an herbalist of alternative medicine doctor to help me. It seems like it might be the only way.

    Teri,
My husband is a chiropractor who has whole food supplements that would help you immediately. I take one called multi pollen that balances your hormones. It would give you immediate relief and is very safe as it is the same as eating a food item. If you are interested go to Nurtrimost.com.

i went thru menopause at 45-50. yes, five years and the drs. said it was too early for me….
i found and still find that an herb called Black Cohosh helps with hot flashes (i prefer to call them ‘power surges’ and with night sweats. afriend of mine uses Don Quiait works well for her. both herbs are available inexpensively at many drug and herb stores. hang in there! and good luck!

Night sweats, hot flashes - anything that keeps you from getting a good night sleep is detrimental to your health so it’s something you should try to manage. Doctors will recommend hormones, but you may want to go to a naturopathic doctor to try alternative remedies. What worked for me (and I was getting hot flashes all day) was a combination of Flax seed, fish oil, and Black Cohosh. Recently I added Dong Quai, a chinese herb. I also stopped drinking wine (alcohol definitely caused hot flashes).
