]]> At this time of the year, Lake Ontario certainly isn’t warm by any stretch of the imagination , but a beach is still an interesting place to visit. There is just something awfully soothing about waves crashing a few feet away. So, if you have to, pull on a coat and spend a little time taking in the view. Who knows, but this might be the only time of year when you won’t have to share the beach with 50,000 people.

So what are the benefits of facing the elements at this time of year? I can think of several, but here are my favorites.

-It’s hard to walk in sand, so you burn lots of calories.
-The fresh air is good for you… at least that’s what my mom used to tell me when she sent me outside to play.
-You can let go of all of your stress. I don’t know why it works, but all is well with the world when you are walking along a beach.

]]> sunless tannerBy about this time each year, we are beginning to think of ways to escape the winter chill and head south. Only one problem with that. Our skin is pale, pale, pale which means that we are really going to stand out when we hit the beach. So, I want to put together a list of self tanners that people actually like. And if there is one that you don’t like for one reason or another, tell us that too. I will get us started.

I use Neutrogena Instant Bronze. I have been drawn back to this one time and time again, because I can control the color. It comes with a bronzer built right in which allows you to see where it has been used. There is nothing worse than heading out onto the beach only to realize that you missed a section of your back!
