This wonder stick is great for the apples of your cheeks, your eyelids, anywhere the sun naturally hits your face. In addition to the different shades (matte & shimmer) they also introduced three bronzers last year.

I mix and custom blend most of the cosmetics that are sold on my website, and just love it. I think of the late Estee Lauder every time I am in my studio working on a new batch of lip gloss or custom blending a new shimmer powder. She is definitely one of my “it gals” and someone who I have the utmost respect for when it comes to beauty. For those of you who are feeling a little daring and want to turn your blush into a shimmery lip color, here’s a quick tip on how to do it.

If you’re like me, then you have loads of makeup to search through to find the perfect color. Find a powder blush in a color that you would like to wear on your lips. Maybe a warm pink, nude, bronze, or something in a peach tone. Whatever blush suits your complexion will look great as a lip color. In a small container break off a tiny piece of blush, (maybe a 1/4 to a 1/2 inch) and mix with a quarter-size dollop of lip balm. I love Rosebud lip balm which is available at most Sephora’s and beauty supply stores.

Mix into a creamy texture, and when you feel like it’s the right consistency apply to your lips, or use a lip brush for a more opaque look. How very Estee Lauder of you!

Let me know what you come up with and of course if you have any questions, I’m your girl.

Kisses from Hollywood and the 2009 Golden Globe Awards,

What do you do when you discover your favorite shade of lipstick has been discontinued? You can: scour the web trying to find someone who still carries stock; open the makeup drawer and attempt to mix and match shades of lipstick that did not work into one that does; or you can visit Three Custom Color Specialists.

Three Custom Color Specialists specializes in recreating discontinued lip color shades. Simply send in a sample (instructions on how to do this are on the website) and the trio of experts will analyze the shade and texture to replicate the sample. If, while wearing your favorite lipstick, you thought to yourself, “I love this but wish it had a more matte finish — or more of a shine”, let them know and they can alter the texture of your favorite lipstick into becoming the absolutely perfect favorite lipstick. If it is already perfect just the way it is, they will simply replicate it exactly as the sample you send in.

Three Custom Color Specialists keeps the recipe used to recreate your lipstick on file, and your favorite lipstick will always be available for you. In addition, they offer custom blending of blush, eye shadow, brow powder, cream concealer and face powder. Visit Three Custom Color Specialists for more information.

Okay, you have a little time today so you are going to add a few steps that you usually… ignore. Feeling guilty… don’t even think about it. My regular day makeup is about 3 minutes tops. This is a whole seven extra minutes!!

1. Apply a cold compress to the eye area to reduce any puffiness. Take advantage and stretch out on the sofa for a few minutes.

2. Apply moisturizer and allow it to soak in.

3. Dot on foundation and blend. Using a sponge will help tremendously with this particular step. Check that there is no foundation line on neck. I can’t believe that I used to use my fingers for this step. A sponge or better yet, a foundation brush is so much better.

4. Apply concealing cream to blemishes or dark circles using tip of fingers. Just a tiny bit is sufficient. You don’t want to draw attention to the problem area.

5. Brush brows into position. Check for holes in the brows from over-plucking.

6. Apply color to brows if necessary. Brow Zings by Benefit is incredible, but a little hair gel will help hold them in place if you are in a pinch.

7. Apply eye shadow. A brush can offer a lot more control that a sponge applicator. To darken the color, simply add another layer of color. Each layer will intensify the shade. I usually apply blush right about now.

8. Apply eye liner. There are lots of liners to choose from. If you have oily lids, a solid liner applied with a little water and a brush, works well. But this takes practice!

9. Curl your lashes. Mine are bone straight and way too short. I’m even considering lash extensions!

10. Apply mascara. Two layers are usually better than one. But be sure that you comb out any lumps that might build up.

11. Apply lip color. Using a brush will ensure a thinner coat of lipstick and a prettier lip line, not to mention staying power.

12. Set makeup with a little loose powder and a fluffy brush.

13. Check your blush and add a tiny bit more if necessary.

Blush can add a healthy glow to your complexion, but if you use too much of a vibrant color, it can also age you. That’s certainly not what we are hoping to achieve.
And a word about those bronzing blushes that come out every summer. Just keep in mind that they don’t work with all complexions. Sometimes they simply look like a swipe of brown eye shadow across the cheekbones. Not very complimentary… A combination of a peach and a rose is usually my best combination.
So play around with more than one color and see what happens!!

For one, my daughter wouldn’t let me out the door looking like that… but ahhh the memories! But getting back on track, I have come up with a short list of things you really shouldn’t do as one begins to get a wee bit older. While certain makeup trends looked pretty cool in the past, they certainly don’t anymore!! Here’s my list.

Much as I loved Twiggy’s lashes in the sixties… I certainly wouldn’t try re-creating them now.

1. Don’t use a harsh liner. Instead of a heavy line of black, opt for a softer shade of chocolate!

2. Blush shouldn’t be applied in stripes. Can’t believe that that technique was ever popular!

3. Here’s another one that is one that should be put to bed and left there… don’t use a dark color of lip liner. You have to know that the lipstick will fade away and the liner is always left behind. You don’t really want to know what you look like with a line of fuschia running around your lips!

4. Eye shadow shades need to be muted. That means that we really shouldn’t be shelling out for acid green shadow… no matter how pretty the color looks in the package. If you need inspiration, just turn on your favorite soap opera and find an actress that is around your age. Most of the time, you can copy their color choices quite easily!

5. And lastly, my favorite… mascara. The product is supposed to make it look as if you have nice thick healthy lashes along the lash line. What you don’t want is too much. Spider legs for lashes isn’t pretty!

That’s it for today. I’m sure there are zillions of mistakes to talk about and chances are I will get around to them… as I think of more I have committed.
