Botox...should I or shouldn’t I?  Well, girls I’ll tell you…YOU SHOULD!!!

Last night I attended a very informative event at Dr. Celia Brown’s office in Woodland Hills, Ca.  She talked about all of the myths associated with Botox.  My best friend who has always been against Botox injections started crossing over to the Happy side of anti-aging last night.  FINALLY…

It is a purified protein of a bacterium. It is home grown in Irvine, California at the main headquarters of Allergan. It arrives to Dr. Brown’s office in powder form where she then mixes it with water before injecting.  It is extremely safe, it’s not a form of botulism, and it can be your BFF for life when injected by the right Doctor.

The chemical goes straight to the muscle where injected and then temporarily paralyzes it.  Results are seen as quick as 2 – 3 days, most likely in 7 days, and maximum effect in 14 days.  The temporary Botox effect can last between 2 – 8 months depending on your metabolism and the Doctors skill.

So, I went to a small Doctor’s spa in my town yesterday to get a little insight. I was told that I would be better off with one of a few types of peels for my sun spots, freckles and hyperpigmentation. He also suggested that I could start off with a more gentle microdermabrasion treatment and follow up with  Retin A ointment in a very low dose first. He felt that I would not benefit from Botox yet. (WHAT???) He said he could only see my lines when I did these funny facial movements and they relaxed on their own really quickly. He made a type of mention that I was “blessed with fattier skin” that does not wrinkle as quickly. (Ok – I am fat. I get it!!!)

Well, I hate Retin A. I blame it on the hyperpigmentation that I have. So, I think that is out of the question. I know that I would benefit from microdermabrasion and a peel. But I was thinking I wanted a more instant fix with Botox.

Decisions, decisions.

I will be in NYC this weekend and found a great walk-in Botox clinic called SmoothMed. I will be making a little walk-in visit and see what the good Doctor’s there have to say.

So, Lianne is the same age as me, and I obviously look like I could use some, as a near stranger thought I should have a bit of Botox too. I think I might do it. Love how the patient was given a Valium before the four procedures. I wonder if just a Valium would be enough for me.

It is an eye-opening read about pharmaceutical companies and their fight to be the best in wrinkle fillers.

And in case you are wondering, when it does come time when I feel the need to get plumped up, I plan on it. But I am hoping that by the time I need it, in the next 15 years or so (wishful thinking, I know), the costs will have significantly decreased.

For now I will continue to rely on my large mass of anti-aging products that I use regularly,for their anti-aging wonder products. Who knows, maybe I will not need any filling at all?
