Hollywood Glamour At The Golden Globes

Celebrities made their way down the red carpet at Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. These ladies are living proof that you can certainly age fabulously. I don’t know where to begin. This is my favorite award show because not only do so many celebrities look great, but Hollywood is a buzzing! The look this year when it came to beauty was bold red lips, heavy eyeliner, lots of smoky eyes, and golden glows. My favorites of course were the ladies who went for the striking eyes.
Starting with Mary-Louise Parker, looking beautiful in a strapless blue Carlos Miele gown with asymmetrical tiers cascading down, and a chiffon layer to complete the bottom portion. Silver jewels and soft makeup finished this look. Mary-Louise is not one to fuss over her beauty routine but she always seems to look great, and at 44 she is in amazing shape. Her makeup for the evening was soft and sexy, with the focus on her violet lined eyes and soft pink lip.
Debra Messing, Star of USA’s Starter Wife, looked stunning and her makeup was all about the eyes. Fully rimmed and smoky were the focus of her very sexy look created by celebrity artist Carol Shaw.
Using a nude shade from the lashline to the brownbone, she then layered a rosy gold shimmer shadow all over the lid. Yes ladies, you can wear shimmer shadows in your 40’s.
Carol applied a jade green shadow in the crease and smudged it under the eyes as well. For extra drama she applied a charcoal shadow to the outer corners of the eyes and in the crease. To finish this look black eyeliner was applied to the inside of eyes and two generous coats of water-resistant black mascara.
Angelina Jolie wore her signature cat eyes and looked beautiful in a creme colored sequence gown. Her hair looked fabulous with very subtle, soft waves that were quite lovely as she glided down the red carpet. Her makeup was sheer and simple with just of hint of shimmer on her cheekbones, and a soft nude lip.
Jennifer Lopez was a golden goddess at this years Golden Globes, showing us that where you place your bronzer makes all the difference when it comes to contouring your face and body. She does bronze well and her skin looked exceptionally radiant. I didn’t love the gown she was wearing, it seemed to accent a larger bottom, but the hair & makeup was a big thumbs up! A little tip when applying bronzer, if you are contouring the cheekbones add the bronzer slightly under the cheekbones and apply a lighter shimmer slightly above the cheekbones. You can also use a shimmer blush in a soft pink or peach for defining your cheekbones.
Eva Longoria looked absolutely gorgeous in this red strapless dress. Her eyes were sparkling, and her skin was glowing as she posed for pictures and made her way down the red carpet. Her hair was pulled back in a soft knot secured at the nape of her neck, and the perfect style for this stunning look.

“Diana Ross has quashed rumours she is to appear in ‘Desperate Housewives’.
The singing legend was reported to be in talks with producers of the hit US series about filming a cameo on Wisteria Lane.
However, Ross insists she has no intention to become a TV actress.”
Haven’t heard anything from Diana Ross for a while, or maybe it’s just me, but do you think that she is making a mistake. Can you see Diana as a good fit? How do you think they would work her into the storyline? Here is your chance to play producer!
Shopping… my rant and my discovery!

You know how much I love shopping, well on Saturday, gave me enough material to rant about. It was nearly closing time and Britt and I were relatively exhausted. Okay, my feet were killing me, but that is parr for the course if you have been shopping all day long. And for the most part it was a good day. Until a “perfume guy” decided that I simply had to test out the latest fragrance. And he wasn’t about to take no for an answer. I hate pushy salespeople. He spritzed it onto a tiny piece of cardboard and when I didn’t look impressed, he decided that I needed to wear the stuff. Okay, at least he knew that the cardboard bookmark becomes just that, or I use it to scent my purse. I certainly wouldn’t buy a scent based on how it smelled on paper.
Well, I should have left well enough alone. It did not agree with me. I expected it to be “heady” when first applied, but as it develops, it usually softens. Not this one. It simply wouldn’t go away. On the way home, I tried to keep my coat sleeve tight around my wrist so that I wouldn’t give Britt a headache. Yes, it was that strong. Did it work… hardly. Now my coat smells like the perfume. I can only hope that it calms down after a few days.
So, was it a bad perfume. Not necessarily. It could have just been me. First of all, my skin is oily so that tends to hold onto the scent longer, and then there is my high blood pressure medication. Sometimes that can cause a scent to react badly as well. (And he didn’t help my blood pressure either.) And it is a known fact that if you are in the perimenopausal years, your hormones can affect the scent as well. Or it could simply be that it was too harst for my liking. But I did find one that I liked and I was really surprised. I’m not usually drawn to celebrity fragrances. Read more
Makeup for the 50ish Woman

Okay, I’m talking about makeup again… but I have something that I just have to share.
Yes, this is my decade and I still read all the beauty magazines and I can’t see this changing any time soon. What has changed is what I do with the information. I look for what I like and then adapt it a little to suit my developing tastes. What I would have worn fashion wise or makeup wise has changed, but it is no way boring. I simply have more confidence to create my own look. I don’t want to look like the latest celebrity. I will certainly borrow what I want, but I always change it to suit me…
