I have arrived

After 23 hours in the car, I have finally arrived in Florida. It’s Christmas Eve and I’m just about ready to go shopping! Can’t break a tradition now can I. Will be back tomorrow with more news about Florida and what I’m up to and yes, my family thinks I’m nuts for wanting to work while on holiday, but what can I say??
It’s fun
So, I will see you tomorrow. Have a great Christmas Eve and a great day tomorrow, just in case my family won’t let me work!!

I Just Thought of Something

If you have noticed a few bare spots on your tree, I might be able to pass on a little something. It has to do with tiny picture frames and photos of the family. I have several generations of family members tucked into the tree. Some are still with us, but many are now gone. But each year, it is so comforting to look into the faces of people who were and still are important in our lives.
And you have heard me speak of Britt on more than one occasion. I have the cutest photo of here when she was …read more

Thoughts for this time of year…

I have always thought of Christmas time, when it has come round, as a good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable time; the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys.

I think that this is the perfect time to pull this old classic off the shelves and enjoy it once more over the …read more

My Christmas Wish List

Not everyone in my family likes to shop as much as I do, so I decided to make it easy for everyone and choose just one store for my wish list. At the moment, I’m kind of partial to the Lush line, so here goes…
Eggnog Lipbalm
Winter Wonderland
Reincarnate Solid Shampoo
Honey, It’s Christmas
Angels on Bare Skin
On the other hand, if they spot something that they know I will love, that’s okay with me too. I plan on spending a lot of time pampering me the entire month of January!

Gift Giving Made Simple

Make it easy on yourself. If you are exchanging gifts with a family, suggest that you make it one gift that everyone will enjoy instead of individual gifts for everyone. I can remember our next door neighbor when I was about twelve years old. She gave us this amazing box of holiday cookies. Everyone certainly enjoyed cookies and I still remember them to this day!
So, Marion… you did good!

Everyone is getting bark for Christmas

Okay, that’s not all they are getting for Christmas, but it is at least something that I can make without screwing up. All you need is chocolate and nuts. You melt the chocolate, stir in the nuts and then spread out on a parchment lined cookie sheet and pop into the refrigerator. When it has harden, you break into pieces. Now if you can find a recipe easier than that, please send it to me!
But for those of you who aren’t into cooking/baking etc., you can simply buy a gift pack of goodies. I was at the mall …read more

All Things Sugar and Spice

Yes, I have my moments when all I want to do is curl up with a mushy Christmas novel. Most of the year, I’m researching something or other, so to be able to stretch out on the sofa and lose myself in someone else’s life is rather blissful! So, this is what I’m reading at the moment. Actually, it has four novellas inside and I’m in the middle of “The Twelve Desserts of Christmas. And at the end of each chapter, author Joanne Fluke, offers the recipes for each of the desserts that she talks about it in novella. …read more

Holiday Fingernails From Long Ago…

Have I ever mentioned the fact that I have years and years worth of magazines? I must be the only person who can walk into a mall looking for a pair of white socks and come out with a buggy full of magazines. Hey, it was a Mother’s Day fundraiser and they had groups of women’s magazines at a $1.00 a year. Can you imagine. So, I simply filled up a buggy with magazines from the sixties and on up.
Anyway, for this entry, I won’t be going back that far, but I did just pull a magazine off my …read more
