The definition of Aromatherapy from Wikipedia:

Aromatherapy is the treatment or prevention of disease by use of essential oils. Two basic mechanisms are offered to explain the purported effects. One is the influence of aroma on the brain, especially the limbic system through the olfactory system. The other is the direct pharmacological effects of the essential oils[1]. While precise knowledge of the synergy between the body and aromatic oils is often claimed by aromatherapists, the efficacy of aromatherapy remains to be proven. However, some preliminary clinical studies show positive effects. [2] [3]

I found an article that speaks to me and how I totally feel about power naps.

The article is written by Dr. Maoshing Ni from his Secrets to Longevity, which is a health blog from Yahoo!.

Power Up with a Power Nap
A long-time tradition in Latin countries, a siesta is a great way to jumpstart the second half of your day. Famous nap enthusiasts have included some of the best minds in history, such as Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill, and Thomas Edison.

What they knew was that a midday snooze – while seeming to be an unproductive use of time – could actually increase their effectiveness. Some of the reviving benefits of naps include enhanced cognitive function, better reaction time, more patience, stress relief, and better overall health.

So how long should your power nap be? It differs from person to person, but on average, a brief nap to revive the brain should be between 15 and 30 minutes. Sleeping for any longer will get you into deeper stages of sleep, from which it is difficult to awaken. (If you are napping to compensate for significant sleep loss, you would of course want to take a longer nap, and research has much to say about the restorative benefits of lengthy naps.)

You can read more of his article by visiting his blog.

Take a guess at what I am about to do right now? It is almost 3:00 in the afternoon and my energy levels are falling. Power Nap here I come!

It is so touching when a company really embraces it’s employees. Such is the case with Archipelago Botanicals.

For Archipelago, a high-end candle and skincare company whose executive staff is mainly comprised of women, the reason to support breast cancer was easy, “You don’t have to look very far to find somebody whose life has been affected by breast cancer,” says Archipelago Founder David Klass. “My own mother was diagnosed, treated and is now very active in the fight. My father-in-law passed away from it; like most guys, he didn’t even know that men could get it. As the father of two girls and the owner of company employing mostly women – it gets personal.”

So when the women of Archipelago wanted to join the fight, the founders were completely on board with developing a project that would get Archipelago active in the cause; Ribbons of Love Diffuser was created with 40% of the net profits going to City of Hope. Collectively the name, exclusive fragrance and special decorative diffuser bottle reflect the dedicated love and support by the entire Archipelago family – those who have been touched by the disease and inspired to help the cause.

The end result is amazing. The fragrance is beautiful, a blend of Pink Grapefruit, Clementine and Pomelo. And it looks gorgeous on my bathroom vanity.

Ribbons of Love Diffuser retails for $50 and is available where Archipelago Botanicals is sold, including drugstore.com.

This is soooo unlike me. Not to spend the entire day on something work oriented is simply not me and I have to admit, it felt strange. Will I do it again tomorrow?? Probably not. Tomorrow we are going to take the shuttle to the mall… for a little while at least. I’m hoping to do something a little different each day.

I think that I was getting into a rutt! But I have to admit, I’m liking this eating out every night! That has to be the ultimate in doing nothing!

And then there’s the little three hour time difference that we aren’t used to, but I imagine that I will be able to manage that in another day or so. Okay, Britt doesn’t seem to be having any problem with it, but she is just a little bit younger than me.

Today, we plan on hitting the gym, I plan on taking a nice long bubble bath after that and soak some weary muscles and then the afternoon, we are just going to see what happens. Today is going to be all about relaxing…other than the gym part.
Yes, I have my moments when all I want to do is curl up with a mushy Christmas novel. Most of the year, I’m researching something or other, so to be able to stretch out on the sofa and lose myself in someone else’s life is rather blissful! So, this is what I’m reading at the moment. Actually, it has four novellas inside and I’m in the middle of “The Twelve Desserts of Christmas. She almost has me checking out what ingredients I have… just in case I get the urge to bake!

But the best part is the ornament that is offered in the center of the book. Okay, I really wasn’t expecting anything much in the way of this freebie, and only opened the little envelope out of curiosity, but to my amazement, this is one cool little ornament. They said that it was 3 dimensional and it really is. You twist the top of the ornament and suddenly you find yourself with the most unusual ornament with a floating snowflake inside.

Not bad for a freebie! Not bad at all!

To be honest, I’m still amazed at the ornament and I will actually hang it on the tree. Never expected that!!
