I am always thinking about some of these non-invasive anti-aging treatments. Botox, Juvederm, Thermage and more. If you have not ever seen any of these procedures performed, like me, I have a great You Tube video for you.

Love how the patient was given a Valium before the four procedures. I wonder if just a Valium would be enough for me.

What do you think of this? Did it make you want to have one of these procedures more or less than you did before? The jury is still out for me on the injections, but for the Thermage – I am really considering that!

According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, over 11.5 million surgical and non-surgical procedures were performed during the year 2006 in the United States alone.

Here are the top five of each type of method, surgical and non-surgical.

Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Procedures

Liposuction – 403,684
Breast augmentation – 383,886
Eyelid surgery – 209,999
Abdominoplasty – 172,457
Breast Reduction – 145,822

Cosmetic Non-Surgical Procedures

Botox – 3.1 million
Hyaluronic Acid – such as Hylaform, Restylane – 1.5 million
Laser hair removal – 1.4 million
Microdermabrasion – 993,071
Laser Skin Resurfacing – 556,172

I will be on the lookout for the statistics for 2007 when they are published next year. I wonder if the numbers will rise.

The War of the Wrinkle Fillers.

I want to pass along an interesting article that was published a few months ago in the New York Times.

It is an eye-opening read about pharmaceutical companies and their fight to be the best in wrinkle fillers.

And in case you are wondering, when it does come time when I feel the need to get plumped up, I plan on it. But I am hoping that by the time I need it, in the next 15 years or so (wishful thinking, I know), the costs will have significantly decreased.

For now I will continue to rely on my large mass of anti-aging products that I use regularly,for their anti-aging wonder products. Who knows, maybe I will not need any filling at all?

If you have used a wrinkle filler, I would love to hear your experience.

Is Restylane the new Botox?

“Restylane contains hyaluronic acid, which is a substance found naturally in the body,” says Manhattan-based plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Kane. “So when used, you are putting something in your skin that is already in the skin.”

After a fine needle is used for the injection, the natural enhancement is instantaneous. In a double-blind clinical trial, Restylane showed a significant difference in the skin compared with bovine collagen.”

I have seen some pretty bad results lately with Botox… maybe this is the new replacement. Apparently it has just been cleared for use in the United States, so perhaps that why it is being referred to as “new”. It’s pretty popular in other countries, But it really isn’t all that new. It’s been around for a while now,
