We all want smooth wrinkle free skin right? So what’s the best way to get there? In my opinion, you have to be armed with information, especially in this day and age where snake oil salesmen abound. One of the key ingredients that I have found to be helpful in the battle of the wrinkle is Vitamin C. It has been proven that eating foods rich in Vitamin C can slow the aging/wrinkle process, so it would stand to reason that using supplemental skincare would further that process.

According to a published report on Smart Skincare.com, “Vitamin C can benefit skin in two important ways. Firstly, vitamin C is essential for the synthesis of collagen, a key structural protein of the skin. Adding vitamin C to a culture of skin cells (fibroblasts) dramatically increases the synthesis of collagen. Secondly, vitamin C is an antioxidant and can help reduce skin damage caused by free radicals. So, when vitamin C is properly delivered into skin cells, there is a good chance to reduce wrinkles and improve skin texture.”

So what does that mean? Basically, Vitamin C increases collagen production and the more collagen your skin has, the fewer wrinkle you will see. So add something vitamin C based to your skin care ritual. Whether it’s a face cream or a serum, either of them will benefit your skin especially if you are over the age of 30. A line that I came across that makes a great serum is Cell Ceuticals. Their research states that, “Vitamin C & E: Vitamin C is critical for collagen production and is the most plentiful antioxidant in our skin to neutralize free radicals! Topical Vitamin C improves fine and course wrinkling, improves smoothness, tone, laxity and can lighten hyper pigmentation. Vitamin E is the predominant antioxidant at the superficial skin barrier (stratum corneum) and works synergistically with Vitamin C. Topical administration of Vitamin E before UV exposure can reduce skin responses such as erythema, edema, and sunburn cell formation.” Sounds good to me!! Try their CellGenesis serum, which at $80 is pretty reasonable compared to comparable products.

J’eune d’Age Organics Anti Aging Serum

Warm weather equals lighter weight skin care for me. But just because it feels light doesn’t mean I don’t want it to deliver results. Jeune d’age Organics Anti-Age Serum has been on my radar ever since I heard about it earlier this year. The serum is packaged in a beautiful box that is made from recycled ingredients and is crafted from certified organic ingredients (the box is made from organic recyclable materials including flower seeds, you can plant the box when you are done and have pretty flowers). The big deal here is that the serum itself is packed in single use foil packets (mono dosing), a process that is normally reserved for sampling. Because the ingredients are organic, they claim the products is fresher that way. The box comes with enough product to last 30 days and is a fantastic after sun treatment for parched skin.

I have been using the serum daily for about 5 weeks and I found that you can get two uses (morning & night) out of one packet…so for the price that makes it economical as well. I have also mixed the serum with my tinted moisturizer and it actually helped the moisturizer to absorb faster. The serum absorbs quickly, is non greasy (you don’t get that tacky feeling that most serums have) and it will elevate your skin’s moisture level with ease. Olay Regenerist Daily Regenerating Serum

Drugstore products are defnitely stepping their game up as of late. Olay Regenerist Daily Regenerating Serum is lightweight and has a gel-like texture (which I prefer for serums). It is a highly-concentrated blend of amino-peptides that regenerates damaged skin, renewing the outer layer to give you a younger-looking complexion. I used this for 14 days and I definitely noticed a difference (especially in the lines on my forehead).

It contains a host of great ingredients that actually work (which is great considering it’s a drugstore line)

carnosine (with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties)
vitamin E (antioxidant)
allantoin (anti-irritant)
green tea (antioxidant)

Also included is 2-3% Niacinamide (vitamin B3) which according to beauty expert Paula Begoun, “it can increase the skin’s ceramide and fatty acid content as well as have anti-inflammatory action“. When the weather gets warmer, I like to use products that feel lighter weight. My skin feels better for it, my new fave is from Lisa Hoffman Skincare. She makes a fabulous Vitamin A & C Serum.

Boots No. 7 Protect & Perfect Beauty Serum.

The search for the fountain of youth continues…

I have been seeing this on my local news all day. Supposedly women are calling and e-mailing local television stations to find out where to get the Number Seven Cream. Well, the cream is actually a serum, from Best Selling UK Beauty Brand Boots. Boots recently launched in the United States, and the PR people have certainly done a great job of getting this “anti-aging miracle serum” out there. From what I hear locally, it is selling out at Target.

So is this just great marketing? Public Relations? Or does this serum really work? You know I will definitely put it to the test as soon as I can get my hands on it.

First off, this serum carries a different name here in the United States. It is the Restore & Renew Beauty Serum. Here is the description from the Boots website.
“Reveal younger looking, beautifully refined skin with this powerful blend of caring and skin restoring ingredients. Light and non-greasy, it glides on instantly softening and smoothing your skin. From the frenzy of it all, if you want to try this beauty out, you better run – not walk to your nearest CVS or Target, as that is the only place you will find it here in the US. You will find it for $21.99.
