Why Do We Sleep – December 30th

We spend a third of our lives doing it.
Napoleon, Florence Nightingale and Margaret Thatcher got by on four hours a night.
Thomas Edison claimed it was waste of time.
Why do we sleep?”
I wish that my university had offered courses on sleeping. I think that might have been the only class that I would have stayed awake for. The whole subject I find utterly fascinating. Why is it that I now require at least 8 hours of sleep a night and sometimes more. Why is it that my husband can fall asleep at four in the afternoon but by eleven is wide …read more

We Need Sleep!

I worked up this article for one of my other blogs… Weary Parent, but then it occurred to me that a lot of us (even though our kids have grown) are still weary parents who can’t sleep through the night. Does any of this sound familiar??
“I don’t know about you, but I can generally fall asleep without any difficulty, it’s staying asleep that I have a hard time with. I will wake up somewhere around 2 a.m and then I begin to run the day over in my mind and sleep is pretty much shot after that. I really need …read more

Do Dreams Get More Interesting as We Age??

Are you one of the lucky ones who wake up feeling refreshed and can recall a kick ass dream that you enjoyed sometime during the night? I have no difficulty getting to sleep. The minute my head hits the pillow, I’m out like a light. But do I dream?? As Phil mentioned over at his blog… “In order for me to remember a dream, it has to fall into one of two categories: so incredibly strange that it would make Willy Wonka look normal; or scary enough to make Stephen King crap his pants.”
Well, I had one of …read more

Sleepless Nights and the Need for Concealers

Why is it that I used to be able to stay out until three and wakeup looking like I went to bed at nine? Doesn’t seem to work anymore and even if I’m in bed by ten, there is no guarantee that I’m going to sleep. And when I haven’t had enough sleep, I have the dark circles to show for it. So, that’s when concealer comes in very handy. But, you can make a mess if you don’t apply it correctly! And man, is that easy to do! So, here are a few things that I learned the hard …read more

*Do You Look Exhausted?

If you wake up feeling more tired than when you went to bed, here is a trick to perk up your face. Well actually, the only thing that is going to help is more sleep, but you can dab on a little ivory highlighter under the brows and in the inner corner of the eyelids… smudging outwards. Avoid adding shadow or mascara on the lower lid. It will make you simply look more exhausted.
And yes, I am putting this into practice today. As much as we try to do everything right, there are going to nights when sleep just …read more

I Reckon…

A man ninety years old was asked to what he attributed his longevity. I reckon, he said, with a twinkle in his eye, it because most nights I went to bed and slept when I should have sat up and worried. ~ Dorothea Kent

I can remember as a child, the minute your head touched the pillow you were out like a light and you didn’t open your eyes again until it was morning. I didn’t have time to worry then… so I’m not going to waste time doing it now. Today I’m going to pretend to be eight …read more
