The Easiest Exercise: Walking.

With summer winding down, I am starting to get back into my daily walking routine. It will be much easier once the kiddos are back at school, but for now, I have set a time, 7PM to walk go on a rigorous walk.

walking2 Did you know that walking really is the easiest exercise? Walking can be done at just about anytime and anywhere. You can walk outdoors on the sidewalk, at a track, on a treadmill, at the mall. Or you can even walk in place, getting that heart pumping!

With a good pair of shoes that have heel support, walking is simple. Walking not only makes you feel good, you will start to notice in just a very short time, that by adding walking into you daily routine, you will soon have more energy. Walking will also help decrease your stress level, to make you feel more relaxed. Overall, it will improve your fitness, and by gently increasing your speed or distance every day, walking will improve your stamina.

Most of the time I like to walk alone, with my iPod, and sing along as I walk around town. Sometimes I do walk with a friend though, and that is when I seem to pick up the pace and walk longer. It all depends on my mood, I guess.

Whatever my mood, I do enjoy it, once I get out there and walk.

Who will join me in my new walking routine?

It’s too bad that the weight loss and exercise industries make walking seem less effective than going out and buying special clothing and joining a gym. More people would probably get the exercise they need if they would ignore the pressure to spend alot of money, and just “walk it of”f.

Walking is a great exercise, but it is something that I do at the gym. It’s just too hot most of the time for me to do it outside.

I wish I had access to a gym growing up. I tried going for a walk several times in the neighborhood despite the fact that the only place to walk was on sandy, uneven dirt roads. The weather and terrain was bad enough, but what stopped me was the many times that men pulled over in their cars trying to pick me up (I was a kid, for goodness sakes!). Looking back, I was really lucky because some of them were quite pushy.

So, walking is good — but it’s definitely important to be vigilant and careful.

I started walking on the 30th and I even recruited a friend to walk with me after we drop off the kids at school. We’ll see how long I keep this up!! I’ve got to admit, I feel a little sore today but SOO energetic.
