What You Need to Know About Cataracts

Unfortunately, cataracts are on the rise, so I thought that this morning, I would spend a little time looking into it. The main thing that I wanted to know is if it ran in families as my mom has cataracts. While I didn’t see a heredity connection, I did notice that certain diseases can cause it… such as diabetes. A really good reason to keep that under check. At the moment, both my sister and myself are pre-diabetic and according to the doctor, if we are careful in the early stages, we might not become full blown diabetic in later life.
A really good reason to really watch my diet. (My mom is on insulin and I’m not good with needles.) I’m not overly keen on cataracts either.
“Wearing sunglasses and a hat with a brim to block ultraviolet sunlight may help to delay cataract. If you smoke, stop. Researchers also believe good nutrition can help reduce the risk of age-related cataract. They recommend eating green leafy vegetables, fruit, and other foods with antioxidants.”
So there you have it. Here’s to healthy living so that we can age fabulously!
