Whirlpool Bath… well maybe not!
I used to have one and I have to admit that I really enjoyed reading in bath amid all the bubbling water, but I just finished reading something that made me feel just a little queasy. A test was done on teaspoons of water taken from the tap and then from a whirlpool bath. I really wouldn’t have expected there to be any difference, but I would be wrong… in a big way.
Apparently, a teaspoon of water taken from your tap contains about 138 bacteria. I don’t even like to think about that when I’m drinking the stuff. But in a teaspoon of water taken from the whirlpool tub, we are talking a couple of million.
It makes sense once you start to think about it. The lining of the pipes connected to your tub are a great place for bacteria to grow and if you don’t flush them out on a regular basis, it just keeps on growing.
And it’s nice to know that this can lead to urinary track infection… and that’s the mildest of the infections listed. Well, that made my decision for me. I’m sticking to a regular tub or on second thought, showers are starting to sound better and better.
*Note… if you already have a whirlpool bath, I would suggest that you contact the dealer and ask what you would need to flush out the pipes. There may be a kit available, or it might be as simple as running the bath with bleach added to the water.

BLEH! I’ve always said that hot tubs were suspect, now I know. I’m here from Michele’s!
My bro had a ‘hot tub’ and they regularly checked for bacteria levels and put something in the water to keep it clean & um, ‘green’ (safe). He was a plumber so probably also knew how to keep pipes clean. Nice blog! Thank you!
i’m the same way about pedicures! I won’t get one ever since I saw the news about the fungus people were getting for that same reason! ack!
