5 Easy Habits for Healthy Skin

It’s possible that sometimes we are over-thinking the way that we want to take care of our skin.  You can invest in thousands of dollars worth of top-of-the-line products, but if you don’t pay attention to your lifestyle habits then you could be inadvertently causing damage to your skin.

I just found on article from the Mayo Clinic that lists the top five habits for healthy skin:

  1. Protect yourself from the sun. I think that most people are aware of this by now, but I still mention it as much as possible to really drive the message home.  Always keep the sun in mind when you are outside.  It might be a cloudy day, but you could still be exposing yourself to harmful UV rays.  Please wear sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher or protective clothing.
  2. Don’t smoke. Again, it seems like a no-brainer to me but there are definitely a lot of people out there who don’t think about the damage to their skin as an irreversible negative effect of smoking.  (As if you needed one more reason to quit!)
  3. Wash your skin gently. Don’t subject your skin to overly hot water or strong skin products.  Use cotton balls and gentle eye makeup remover and pat your skin dry.  If you are rough with your skin it can cause irritation and dryness.
  4. Moisturize regularly. PLEASE do this!!  If there is one things that you should be doing, it is this.  Proper moisturizing is such an important preventative step that you should incorporate into your daily routine at an early age.  Men need to moisturize too!
  5. Shave carefully. Try to take a little time and care when you are shaving to avoid causing irritation, ingrown hairs, and redness.  Stay away from dry shaves and dull razors!

Are you doing all of these things??  Make sure that you are taking care of these five healthy skin requirements before spending too much time worrying about what products you should be using…

These are the best tips if only people would do them. Forget the tan folks. The sun will age you faster than any stress in your life
