There comes a point in a person’s life that there is a decision to have an investment, and there are reasons to splurge. Well, I remember my mom investing in Solingen nippers during her time. Whenever I’d hear the brand, or place Solingen, I am always reminded of high quality steel that is just perfect for nippers and nail cutters, but isn’t confined in in just nailcare. Cutlery and knives happen to be their specialty, too.
Check out Wikipedia’s information about Solingen,
Solingen is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located on the northern edge of the region called Bergisches Land, south of the Ruhr area. Population: 163,923 (2005). Solingen is called the “City of blades”, since it has long been renowned for the manufacturing of fine swords, knives, scissors, and other cutlery made by famous firms such as Wüsthof, Zwilling (J.A. Henckels), Boker, and numerous other manufacturers and is the home of Wilkinson.
In Medieval times, the swordsmiths of Solingen coined the town’s image, which is preserved to date. In the latter part of the 17th century, a group of swordsmiths from Solingen broke their guild oaths by taking their sword-making secrets with them to Shotley Bridge, County Durham in England, an ideal area, due to its iron reserves and the proximity of the River Derwent. Some 90% of German knives are produced in Solingen.
I think that it is worth the investment to buy a manicure set. First, you can’t scrimp on sub-par materials because when the metal is not stainless steel, chances are it gets rusty, and ack! Does tetanus ring a bell? I could never forget the day I watched the Tyra Show and learned that there are really people who die from having bacterial infection from manicure tools that weren’t sanitized enough. In this case, I would want to use my own tools, and my own quality tools.
Check out the 8-Piece Solingen Steel Manicure Set by Acca Kappa. This is made in Italy by Italian Craftsmen using Solingen Inox Steel. The set includes cuticle nippers, nail scissors, cuticle scissors, nail-blade sapphire file, two cleaners, pusher and professional tweezers. I think it is short of a nail cutter but it is all good. This set is perfect for travel, and gifts for both men and women, and I would imagine it being brought to the salon for his or her regular mani-pedi session. For $170, it isn’t the cheapest, but it is indeed a sure bet manicure set that would last you for ages. And I mean ages. How would I know? My mom still has her trusty nipper, all bright and shiny, that she bought when she was still single. It really pays to invest in quality manicure tools.
Tata for now!
