5 Hair Care Tips for the Holidays

This is the most hectic time of the year for every single part of you and your hair isn’t getting a holiday either. If you are stressed about the season, it’s going to show in your hair… sad but true. So, here’s five things you can do starting today to make sure your hair looks as amazing as you want it to.

1. Limit the number of late nights. While you are sleeping is the time when your body is repairing itself. Take advantage!

2. Drink lots of water. We have all read that the body needs several glasses of water a day. Part of that is directed to your hair. Don’t ask me how, I just read it somewhere. That’s enough of a reason for me to bring a glass of the stuff to my desk. It sure can’t hurt and with everything we do to our hair these days, it just might help!

3. I know that it is tempting to grab a towel when you get out of the shower and rub all of the dripping water out of your hair, but this isn’t going to help your hair either. All of those little fibres can get caught on the hair shaft and if you have split ends to begin with, well lets just say that they go further than they did before you shampooed.

4. Condition, condition, condition.

5. Use products that promise to protect your hair from your hair tools. I use Alberto Miracle Mist and it certainly must be doing what it is formulated for. I use my flat iron way to much (I admit it) and my hair isn’t protesting… not at all, which is amazing considering how hot it gets. And yes, I have burned myself more than a few times.

And lastly… slow down. We are always in such a hurry to get everything done… it wouldn’t hurt to relax a little every day. If even for just five minutes!

I was just reading about stolen handbags on MoneyExpert.com and they mentioned the fact that over the past year, over 400,000 bags have been stolen from cars. Not only are you losing your bag, but think about what might be in the bag and the things that are going to have to be replaced! Having a credit card fall into the hands of a thief, terrifies me. And then there is the driver’s license with your home address clearly printed for anyone to see… we are talking thieves here. It just gets worse and worse.

Rule of thumb for this holiday season is to keep your bag with you. And those gifts that are too heavy to carry around with you… lock them in the trunk!

How People Have Curled Their Hair Over the Years

I can still remember my mom using long strips of cloth to wind around my sister’s hair. I must have been pretty young because it’s a bit of a blur but I do remember that she would sleep in these long pieces of cloth. I must remember to ask her for more details, but I think that the next morning my sister would have the most gorgeous ringlets. Anyway, that lead me to start looking for other bizarre methods people used to curl their hair and I came across this little tidbit.

Apparently people in the “Near East” curled their hair by coating it in clay and then allowing the sun to bake it. I found this bit of info in a book that I just pulled off the shelf entitled, “Really Useful… *the origins of everyday things”. It’s one of those books that you buy, it sits on your shelf and then one day you pull it off and find something really interesting. Must look to see if they have anything else about hairstyles.

I think patent leather bags are growing on me. For the longest time I wanted no shine what so ever and my daughter felt the same way. But, after seeing this bag from Dooney & Bourke, all I can think about is molten chocolate. How could anyone not like a bag that reminds you of chocolate?? And as far as details of the bag goes, it has a divider, which will make it easier to find stuff… a big pet peeve of mine and a zip top pocket. Okay, I would like a few more pockets to stuff bits and pieces into, but other than that, the bag is working for me!

It’s Called Mod Velvet Squares

It’s called the Soiree Pleated Bag and I especially like the fact that you can have a bag that looks good and is functional all at the same time. And having spent the day at the mall, I’m really liking the fact that you can adjust the straps to 38 inches so that you can wear it “messenger style”. My shoulders are about to scream at the moment… but I did do a lot of Christmas shopping today! There are lots and lots of colors to choose from, each with interesting little kick pleats that make the bag even more interesting. I picked the blue bag but there is also a caramel one that has just caught my attention. Go and take a look!!
