Bling is Out for Sunglasses This Summer

I am happy to see that sunglasses styles have moved away from the overly flashy and over-the-top “bling” designs to more of a vintage and minimalistic look for this summer. Here are some trends that I think will be “out” this summer:
- wrapping or shield sunglasses – Styles with a one-piece lens and super wide sides are good for sun protection, but not so good on style. I think Paris Hilton wore these a lot back when The Simple Life was still being filmed and Nicole Richie wasn’t skinny.

- heavy details – I’ve seen styles with large gold medallions and trinkets attached to the sides, like these heart-shaped inserts on the temples. I like the rectangular shape of the lenses, but not the extra metal.

- over-complicated designs and materials – This style has too much going on with the leopard print sides, gold rings, sparkly logo, and reflective frames. One of these elements could possibly work on its own, but there is way too much here.
rhinestones – I have never really liked rhinestones on sunglasses, so I’m not sad to see these styles being phased out. I had to actually search pretty hard to find one of these rhinestone logo styles that used to be everywhere. I also think that the lenses are a little too skinny.
- rimless frames – The delicate rimless frame styles are out for sunglasses this season, but if you are a fan of this style the good news is that, thanks to Sarah Palin, they are definitely in for prescription eyewear! Rimless frames have a very delicate look, but this summer styles are leaning more towards chunky plastic frames.
