Caught on Camera: Fashion Week Edition

This was my first time covering Toronto Fashion Week and I have to admit it was a week to remember. I have attended as a member of the audience but when you’re the media things change: doors open and sometimes close, bigger media steps on you, and all in all you begin to see attendees in a different light. Especially when you go through your photos and check out what’s going on in the audience.
Below is a list of things you should watch out for when attending fashion shows (like your facial expression). Why you might ask? Because there are a million and one cameras there capturing every moment.
Don’t: Look absolutely unimpressed or dazed and confused when you’ve been given the privilege of sitting in the front row. Front row=VIP=swag=jealous.
Ok, Ok maybe this chick was tired, having a bad day, or really didn’t like what she saw. Either way she had the same expression throughout the entire show. I know some people attend simply to be seen but c’mon. There are tons of people who would kill to have such luxury seating. Including my colleague Sabrina Baldini and I who were sitting on concrete at the end of the runway for every show.
Do: Look like you’re stoked to be there!
Especially if you’re Jeannie Becker (host from Fashion Television), after all if she doesn’t look impressed then we’re not impressed. I trust her take on fashion so I was happy to see her enjoying the shows.
Do: Have fun.
Like Canada’s beloved comedian Rick Mercer. He was snickering at the scantily clad models from Travis Taddeo’s show.
I love fashion but lets take a tip from Mr. Mercer and not take it too seriously.
It was a great week and I can’t wait for Fall/Winter Fashion Week in March!
