Chinatown Logorama Tee by Freegums

As a former NYC resident, I have spent my fair share of time in Chinatown. And not just the hip-to-be-square Chinese ice cream shops or the uber-cheap restaurants. I must grudgingly admit that I have trekked down to Canal Street to scope out the fake designer merchandise. Never alone, of course, and only with out of town guests, who don’t know that fake designer goods keep designer prices high, support all sorts of illicit activities, and, well, are made of shoddy materials by people who are lucky if they get paid.
Guilt-tripping aside, there is something so seductive to me about the (faux) gilded wares of Canal Street. The combination of logo obsession and the complete removal of design context fascinates me. Where else are you going to see a Fendi logo on a turquoise Marc Jacobs turnlock bag? No where. This shirt by Freegums perfectly encapsulates the Chinatown vibe.
And, OMFG, it’s reversible! Hilariously tongue-in-cheek, “fashion” forward, and practical! And black, so, you know, it’s basically the most perfect tee ever. Available for $40 from Freegums.
