Combat Dry Skin With A Few Quick Tips
As the weather gets colder, you are bound to find that your skin has different needs than it did six months ago. Where it may be possible to skip out of the house without moisturizer in the morning during the summer, once December hits your skin will start demanding more attention and care.
But is it just about moisturizer? Well, no – if that’s all you’re doing to try to keep your skin from getting itchy and dry, then you might be missing out on some necessary steps to keep your skin happy and nourished.
Drink More Water: That’s right, even though you may find your thirst isn’t kicking up to remind you, it’s important to keep your hydration up in the winter. Regular sips of water throughout the day will keep your body replenished and be a major step toward preserving or regaining soft, touchable skin.
Take a Shower: Everyone loves a good bubble bath every once in a while, but you might find your skin thanking you if you only make this a habit during warmer months. During the winter, your best bet is a shower, which won’t strip away your skin’s natural oils like a soak in the tub will. This will also mean relying less on bottled moisturizers to make up for the natural oils lost in the bath.
Turn Down the Heat: Yes, it’s cold outside…which means the temptation to turn up the temperature while you’re in the shower is high. But don’t give in – hot showers (or worse, a hot bath!) will do more damage to your skin’s health than it’s worth. Instead of a long steamy shower, make it quick and lukewarm.

I have horribly dry skin and it got worse when we moved to Colorado. I definitely found that drinking more water is a huge help. It makes all the difference in the world and it gives me more energy!
Great advice, Rachel. I’ve noticed a big difference in my skin just this week. I think I’ll go grab a big glass of water.
