DIY Brown Sugar Scrub

So, unless you have an extra $60 laying around, you might not be buying Fresh’s Brown Sugar Scrub.  It’s great stuff, but I can’t afford that very often.  And my shins, elbows, knees, and heels need some major smoothing.  Try making this scrub and save yourself some major bucks.  Feel free to substitute for what you have in your house – especially where the types of oil are concerned. I’ve made this scrub with everything from virgin olive oil to grapeseed or jojoba and it’s all good.   You may want to clean out an old scrub jar or some other large, flattish container.  Preferably not glass as that’s a huge, unsafe mess in the shower if it breaks.  So make your own brown sugar scrub and let me know how it goes!

Brown Sugar Scrub

4 cups sugar – brown sugar is usual, but turbinado sugar for super scrubbiness

4 cups kosher salt

1 cup finely ground almond meal or apricot meal (or oatmeal)

1/2 cup honey

1/2 cup almond oil or apricot kernel oil

2 T. avocado, shea, or cocoa butter – melted (optional)

5-10 drops vitamin E oil

fragrance if desired (try grapefruit essential oil)

sunflower oil if desired

Combine all ingredients and spoon into desired container. Allow the scrub to sit overnight after the addition of the 1/2 cup of almond or apricot kernel oil. If more oil is necessary, add the sunflower oil to your desired scrub consistency.
