DIY Scented Craft Resources

Something about January makes a lot of people feel like making their home more cozy and pampering their bodies. But there’s no need to hit up Sephora or Ulta if you don’t feel like it - why not try making a few scented treats for yourself? Here’s some shopping resources to get you started.
Start in your kitchen cupboards. A lot of the ingredients you might need like sugar, oil, and baking soda are right in your cabinets. Experiment with different types of sugars and oils if you feel fancy, but you really can’t go wrong substituting similar ingredients.
If you don’t have a particular ingredient, pick some up at the grocery store. Natural foods stores like Whole Foods or Trader Joes might have what you want. Essential oils can be found at these stores in the cosmetics/body care section. Shea butter, jojoba oil and beeswax are often available as well.
Drugstores often carry cocoa butter but be SURE to buy the real butter and not the lotion! You can also buy unscented lotions and add your favorite essential or fragrance oils.
High quality fragrance oils, are sometimes available at craft stores. Ben Franklin in this area has a fairly good selection.
But your best bet is online. Some of my favorite sites include:
There are, of course, many others. These sites have a very large number of fragrances as well as other supplies you might need, AND packaging. But be careful - it’s easy to buy a lot and not so easy to use it up. Buy the smallest quantities of fragrance available - some fragrance oil suppliers even offer sampler packs which are perfect for the crafter.
