Four Hundred Dollars for Body Cream?

How much would you pay for a great body cream… I mean a really terrific one that moisturized your skin, improved skin’s firmness and otherwise helped to fight the signs of aging? Fifty dollars? Maybe one hundred? I don’t think I’d pay more than that, how good could it be?

No matter how awesome a product is, I don’t think I could ever start splurging for body creams and lotions that were more than $100 — even if I were mega-rich. That’s why when I came across Premier the Body Cream from the Kanebo Sensai Collection, I was flabbergasted. It’s $400 for an 8.5 oz jar. FOUR HUNDRED BUCKS?!

People can spend their money on whatever they wish. But if I were rolling in cash, I’d like to think I would get a $100 cream instead and give the other $300 to charity.

What do think about outrageously priced bath and body products? Can they be that much better than any other department store product, or even drugstore brand for that matter? Leave your comment here and let us know.

And if you really want Premier the Body Cram — it’s exclusively at Bergdorf Goodman for a cool four bills.

Just can’t bring myself to do it. I’ve been a beauty writer for years and co-founded my own e-commerce beauty site and I know that, by and large, most products of a single category (so, say, lotion) have at least 90% of the exact same ingredients on their list… I’m not sure what could be so different that a $400 price tag is warranted other than the simple economics of the situation: If there are people in the market willing to bear the price of the product, it will continue to exist at that price!

    Dear Jessica and Kelly-
I work with the brand. SENSAI by Kanebo has a range of skincare and cosmetics that offer a full breadth and scope for all ages, including SENSAI Silk for younger skin, SENSAI Cellular Performance to address the first signs of aging and offer targeted solutions, SENSAI Colors a line of moisturizing makeup and SENSAI PREMIER their most powerful line of skincare. The SENSAI PREMIER line represents more than 15 years of skincare research and technologies. The brand holds numerous patents in skincare research.

SENSAI Premier is the first line to address DNA cellular support-that is to support the cells that support your DNA (it doesn’t touch nor affect DNA), with it’s exclusive Japanese Seaweed Extract. SENSAI Premier also provides moisture using their exclusive Koishimaru Silk extract, a finer more delicate silk which is held exclusively for the Japanese Royal Family. Kanebo’s extensive history in silk seroculture in Japan led them to be granted the rights to work with this particular silk–which is a cornerstone for the brand.

Kanebo researchers discovered that the extract taken from Koishimaru silk has a capacity to increase the Hyaluronic Acid in the dermis. This extract, Silk Fibroin is made of protein and is taken from a silk thread. Once Silk Fibroin is hydrolyzed, microscopically dissected, it then becomes a compound called oligo peptide, a sequence of amino acids.

This oligo peptide is small enough to be penetrated into skin. It dramatically promotes the function of special enzymes that accelerate the Hyaluronic Acid synthesis in the dermis. Silk Fibroin has superior moisturizing properties since it retains 300 times its own weight in water.

Kanebo was the first in the world to develop the technology allowing silk fibroin (silk protein) to be made into an aqueous solution and has 300 scientists working around the world to develop new technologies and unlock the secrets of a myriad of natural ingredients.

This is just one of the many key ingredients that differentiates this brand across the globe. I’m happy to address any questions you may have, and you’re welcome to learn more about SENSAI at http://www.kanebo.com

I have to say I absolutely love Kanebo, I use some of their skincare products, but I can’t imagine ever paying $400 for a bodycream.
