Get A Tan The Safe Way

We’ve warned you about the dangers of basking in the sunshine without proper SPF protection. But we know a lot of you like how a ‘tan’ looks. Now let’s explore the world of self-tanners. Gone are the days of obviously “fake bake orange”, more and more self tanners on the market are providing a natural sun-kissed glow. Some are formulated for different skin types and are available in different shades, too.

One of the many products available is this two-step system by Fusion Beauty. Perfect Glow is duo that delivers a perfect tan in just a couple hours. The self-tanning mist is a clear, all natural, unscented and fast drying spray that is formulated with micro-nutrient technology. It blends antioxidants and vitamins to your skin while it gives you that glow. The emulsion is a hydrating moisturizer and ’self-tanning extender’, the added DHA works with the amino acids in your skin cells to produce a slight color change. The system is said to last up to two weeks without fading and is suitable for all skin types.

But before you apply it here are some helpful tips to self-tanning…

1. Gently exfoliate your skin. You want a smooth surface for the tanning agent to adhere to so the application isn’t streaky or patchy.
2. Moisturize your skin before applying self tanner. It will allow for a smoother application.
3. Set aside half an hour or more to apply the self tanner and allow it to dry. Don’t rush the application process otherwise you’ll get streaks and might miss some spots.
4. Tie your hair up or use a shower cap so it doesn’t stick to your skin
5. Apply self-tanner lightly on areas where your skin is thickest (knees, elbows, knuckles, ankles)
6. Wash your hands immediately after application or save yourself the trouble and wear gloves.

Sounds easy enough right? If you make a self-tanning snafu, at least it’ll come off without much trouble or pain. A sunburn on the other hand, isn’t as easy or pain free. ;) You can pick up the Fusion Beauty Perfect Glow kit at Sephora for $48
