I went green a while ago. Not totally green, but pretty close. Indie has been a growing trend in my life.

Do the two merge? Yeah, i think so.

The Farmer’s Market Theory

My favorite part of Farmer’s Markets is that you can ask questions. When were these planted? Which kind of tomatoes are best right now? How do i even cook kale?

It’s the relationship between the buyer and the seller that matters.

It’s the same thing with indie designers. Everything I’ve ever ordered from etsy, for example, has happened with conversation. I feel like I know who I’m buying from. Because there’s conversation, you can always custom order something.

Just like you can ask a local farmer to save you some blueberries next week, you can ask a purse designer if they can use organic cotton instead of commercial.

In general, I find that indie designers also tend to go green because they care about what they’re doing for the earth as opposed to mass manufacturers who are (usually) out to make a profit. Gaia Conceptions is one of my favorite eco-friendly indie designers. Everything is local and organic.
