Hair trends for 2009

What do Jennifer Aniston, Meg Ryan and Kate Moss have in common besides fame?

Duh…they are trendsetters!

Have you ever wondered who’s behind their gorgeous do’s and where their inspiration comes from?

One of the most influential hair designers would be Sally Hershberger. Sally created the unforgettable shag on Meg Ryan. Kate Moss has also been coiffed by her talented hands. You would be interested to know some of her inspiration comes from art and architecture.

Most stylists would agree that trends are a culmination of great ideas that come from makeup artists, hair colorists, photographers and fashionistas.

Speaking of fashion…curls made their way right off the catwalk for 2009; pure glamour is definitely in with an Audrey Hepburn style mixed with a retro twist.

Whether it’s a pixie posh or a bohemian rage of waves, there is a lot of texture going on for 2009.

How do you achieve those beautiful waves? Curling Irons are a reverse flat iron: Straight hair will continue to be in style but loose spirals or tight ringlets will take center stage for 2009.

The type of iron that you opt for, will depend on the type of curl that you want and the type of hair that you have. Curling irons with small barrels create tight curls while those with large barrels produce waves. Although fine hair curls easily at lower temperatures, you’ll need an iron with higher heat settings if you have thick, coarse hair.

What about hair color for 2009?
There’s lots of ways to update or change your look. One of the easiest and most obvious ways is changing your hair color. Soft blondes, rich reds and striking brunettes are great place to start.

Soft blonds, beautiful brunettes and rich reds: Forget the chunky colorful streaks, they’re out. Earth tones are in. We are looking at natural true to life color with hints of vanilla for blondes, golden highlights for brunettes and reds with golden highlights.

This seasons hair color trends are more natural than ever: Colorful, chunky streaks are out; dimensional earth tones

Blonde
One of the most popular blondes of the moment is an expensive look with natural finish, You can achieve this by weaving different shades of blonde, from sable, mink and vanilla through the hair. The “new” blonde is always paired with lowlights. Tone-on-tone coloring – like blonde on blonde – adds smart sophistication to any shading.

Brunette
Harsh black, purple and stripy highlights are gone from the scene – this season’s colors are all natural and true to life, only better. For the perfect tone-on-tone brunette, get subtle golden highlights painted on top of a light but warm brunette base. To add depth, a slightly darker color at the roots and under layers will do the trick.

Redheads
Season’s most popular reds are warm shades that flicker depth and dimension on an intense base and golden highlights. But also shades of red, from burgundy and strawberry blonde to copper brown and auburn will be among the most wanted shades this year.

Whatever style or color you choose this year, consult your hairstylist for the best advice. Choose a style that compliments your facial structure and color that makes your highlights compliments your eye color and skin tone.
