How To Determine Your Skin Type

One of the most important factors in determining your daily skin care routine is to start by determining your skin type.  I have recently started to research new skin care lines and products to report back to our readers about the latest and greatest in the skin care industry, but I also think that it’s important to constantly refer back to the basics.  I realized that sometimes you might not want to try the fancy new face cream with millions of dollars worth of research and experimental new chemicals.  Sometimes you might just want an easy and affordable routine that involves a few minutes in the morning and night and a trip to the drugstore once a month.

If you want the fast and easy routine for taking care of your skin, I would advise you to determine your skin type and then try the affordable drugstore options that are used for treating your needs.

  • Dry/Sensitive – Your skin feels tight and dry and sometimes it is flaky or red.  You might react to products that you haven’t used before with rashes and more flakiness.  Your skin is slightly rough.  Most important skin care step: Moisturizing
  • Normal – You don’t worry about using special products, and you never break out or have excessive dryness.  You have well-balanced skin that is soft and not shiny.  You rarely ever have bumps or blemishes.  Most important skin care step:  SPF
  • Combination – The T-Zone is the T-shaped area of your face that includes the forehead, nose, and chin.  You often have shine and oiliness in your T-zone and dryness on your cheeks and eyelids.  Most important skin care step: Exfoliating
  • Oily – You have oily skin that is prone to bumps and large blemishes.  You might have re-curring pimples and blackheads around the nose.  Your skin is shiny most of the day and make-up causes you to breakout.  Most important skin care step: Washing

Start be determining which category your skin falls into and you will have a much easier time finding the right products that will work with your skin.
