I Will Miss You Eluxury.com…

I usually jump for joy in the middle of the day when I receive an e-mail from eLuxury.com. However, the e-mail I got today just put a real damper on my otherwise upbeat and happy Monday groove.

In the middle of January LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, who owns Eluxury.com, announced that they would slowly move away from the bread and butter of the late 1990s and early 2000s, e-commerce, and move towards a destination for information on luxury fashion and living. According to WWD, their exact reason pointed to the evolution of the internet and LVMH’s desire to create a portale to all things luxurious:

Starting in mid 2009, eLuxury’s new mission will be to create an ‘e-window’ into the world of luxury, by serving as an information reference for luxury in fashion, art de vivre, leather goods, wines and spirits, watches and jewelry, gastronomy, cars, yachts and services. ..eLuxury intends to develop collaborations with the most prestigious names in the world of luxury media, as well as the main contributors of the luxury world.

Slowly but surely, things began to change. It was earlier in the Spring that Louis Vuitton pulled out my beloved boutique from the Eluxury.com website and went exclusively to Louis Vuitton.com. I guess I’ll have to rely on going to my neighborhood Neiman Marcus to covet the City Bag that is on my next wish list.

Well, changes are changes, and the internet is constantly evolving. And, to be honest, I had no earthly idea this was happening (shock!). So, today, getting this e-mail was almost heartbreaking.

Today, I read:

Prior to the online store closing, customers may shop eLUXURY’s collection of designer closeout apparel, shoes and accessories for him and her. Through June 26, customers can find women’s and men’s apparel, designer handbags, shoes and accessories from fashion’s favorite designer brands, like Alexander Wang, Hussein Chalayan, Michael Kors, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Thakoon, Zac Posen, Roberto Cavalli, Dolce & Gabbana and many more – all at up to 40 percent off.

So, if you’re a bargain luxury shopper, let’s go shopping! Or, if you aren’t, then let’s all just mourn the passing of another internet icon, Eluxury.com. I’ll miss your gaucky models, your awkward possess and your bad make-up. However, I am looking forward to the reading! Bring it on!
