Yesterday, I reviewed Mally, the new fragrance from Mally Beauty. I always wonder what inspires a fragrance designer. Where do they get their ideas? Where does the process start? I had the opportunity to ask Mally Roncal a few of these questions and here’s how she explained her particular process…
*What made you decide to create a fragrance?
I believe that beauty is about more than just camouflaging zits and applying color… To me, it’s an aura that can be seen, smelt, felt, and heard by others. That’s why I created this fragrance…It’s my first step outside of cosmetics and I’m on a mission to cover all five senses!
*Were you intending to create a particular mood or feeling with your choice of fragrance notes?
I wanted to create something very clean, fresh and feminine..something that makes you feel effervescent, joyful and energized. For personal satisfaction, I also wanted to give a little shout out to my heritage by centering the fragrance around the Sampaguita flower – the national flower of the Philippines.
*How do you begin the process? Do you chose a note and go from there or do you chose a fragrance category and build around that?
It’s much more involved than I thought it would be! I knew going in that I wanted to do something reminiscent of my Filipino background and the Sampaguita flower was the first thing to come to mind. I worked with an amazing team of professionals who helped me and supported me every step of the way!
Thank you, Mally!
