Introduction to #Fashion on Twitter

Social Media has come a far way from the private network of college students that once counted down the days until their university was added to thefacebook.com (it was May 5, 2004 for my school by the way). Today, people cannot wait long without checking their e-mail let along checking who has sent out tweets, updated their status or even posted a comment on their profile. Aside from creating a sense of connection that so many people desire, social media has also created instant access to fashion.

Rachel Zoe Uses Twitter
This instant access allows even the novice fashionista to become a fashion “insider.” Just be becoming a “fan” on facebook, or by “following” someone on twitter you become part of the fashion world. It’s a PR consulants dream. Setting up a twitter page for someone like Louis Vuitton on Friday with only 84 followers and by Saturday you have 1,000 followers. Just by having name recognition!
Louis Vuitton is not the only one doing it. In Style magazine updates all the time. During Awards Season they tweeted about designer gowns and allowed bloggers to update instantly. Rachel Zoe gives her followers a peek into her studio and suggests other fashion celeb tweeters, like .
Some stores have even announced sales as they start (or minutes before!) to their followers so they can get a head start on shopping (like Bluefly.com & RedTagCrazy.com).
Bloggers, including many of us at Splendicity, have set up twitter accounts to post recent blogs almost instantly as they are posted. They also use their accounts to connect to their readers to see what type of content they are craving. It’s instant feedback and just fabulous!
Adding hashtags like #fashion, #celebrity and others will also add to your ability to find out more fabulous things on twitter. Downloading programs such as tweetdeck allow you to create searches which alert you as to when new tweets have appeared with tags of interest.
If you are looking to add to your followers list, or are just looking to see what this Twitter madness is about, here is a good list of big name Fashion Insiders who are great at what they do(in no particular order):
You can also follow me on twitter as well. Many of our other Bloggers are also on Twitter.
