Magnifying Mirror + Tweezer : Careful!

I was chatting a beloved friend awhile ago, and she was telling me about her eyebrows which she was trying to shape to perfection awhile ago that almost went awry- all because of the magnifying mirror.

She was using a magnifying mirror to pluck her stray hair on her brows, and that deemed effective. Magnifying mirrors are great at “catching” where the stray hair are, and make it easy for the user to get em all out. Apparently, the problem arose when my friend started to attempt to shape her brows like she would always do. She plucked, and tried to shape her eyebrows away, and as she paused, she checked her appearance on a normal mirror, and to her shock, she has just been diagnosed with a the disease of overplucked brows! It was really lucky for her that her instincts subconsciously told her to check her appearance with a normal mirror, or she might have to live with super scarily thin brows for awhile.

Lesson learned? Magnifying mirrors that magnify 5x or 10x are perfect for pulling out those pesky stray hair, but when shaping is concerned, better keep it real, and see it as it is with a normal mirror. Magnifying mirrors are really helpful beauty tools that can help us apply our makeup more precisely, as well as perfect whatever we want to do with our faces, but it sometimes gives us an illusion that we can confuse with what is real – so know when you should, or should not use it.

Yikes, I used a magnifying mirror a long time ago but I’ve stayed away from them and reading about your friend’s experience convinced me that normal mirrors suit me fine!

Sometimes it’s best not to get too close to a situation!

I once read and follow the advice that if you are using a magnifying mirror, stop every 2 or 3 hairs and check in a regular mirror to make sure you aren’t overplucking.

I almost had this happen, seeing the hairs that close up was too satisfying and plucking them…. wow. it’s hard to stop when it’s so effective, lol.

Brows in this mirror may be more overplucked than they appear!
I’ve even had this problem when standing too close to a regular mirror plucking. When you aren’t back far enough, you lose the overall proportional perspective that allows you to judge how much is too much. Besides, magnifying mirrors mostly make us feel anxious about our “problems” and “flaws” anyway!

Oh boy! That’s the downfall of the magnify mirrors.

Yeah I just use a regular good ol’ mirror and lots of light for my eye brow plucking fiasco’s.

Magnifying mirrors are definitely not for me, too!!!!!

    Somethings are better left unseen….haha.

I think I’ll be sticking to the regular ol’ mirror!

Eep! I’ve been thinking about getting a magnifying mirror, but I probably wouldn’t have thought to check in a normal mirror until it was too late. Thanks for the advice!

great point! I have a friend whose magnifying mirror caused her to go tweezer-happy! I think it is already so easy to get carried away with plucking…these mirrors just add more encouragement!

..and I am now shopping for a magnifying mirror! Hmm! To get or not to get . Perhaps I will, but I’d be extra cautious! :P
