More Hair Myths Exposed

According to my friend Blaine of Texas’s Blaine’s Color, there’s a lot of urban legends in the world of hair color!
Some of the myths out there are just plain dumb. (Like the belief that if you cut your hair during a full moon, it grows faster!). Others though, are easy to get caught up in. Do you believe a total lie?
Do not be fooled – it’s the first step to making a major style mistake. Here’s some things to remember:
MYTH #1: Split ends can be fixed with products.
Sorry, amputation is the buzz word here…nothing will get rid of them except scissors. For gorgeous, shampoo-commercial hair, keep heat styling to a minimum (do you really need that daily flat-iron fix?) and get a trim at least every eight weeks.
MYTH #2: Plucking out one gray hair will lead to more.
If that were true, everyone would pluck just to get thicker hair and then dye it! If you have a few grays, tug away–no worries.
MYTH #3: 100 brush strokes a day are good for your hair.
Excessive brushing can put stress on your hair and if it is chemically treated, that is the last thing you need. Brushing also activates oil glands, so over brushing can give your hair a limp look. My advice is to use a good quality brush your hair into the style you want and leave it alone.
MYTH #4: Home cocktails with vodka, mayonnaise, or beer are great for hair.
There might be some ingredient in vodka, mayonnaise, or beer that’s great for hair, but today’s products use the best of those ingredients without the smell, funny texture, or hassle. If there’s any truth to it, you know the product people have researched it, Put mayonnaise on your sandwich and something else in your hair.
MYTH #5: Rinse your hair in cold water to prevent frizz and color fading.
The only thing you can get from rinsing your hair in cold water is a chill. Cold water does make the hair cuticle contract for a second, but as soon as your body temperature returns to normal, so will your hair. While this may prevent a little frizz, the benefit may not be worth it.
MYTH #6: To get really clean hair, you must “lather, rinse, and repeat”
One thorough washing usually does the trick.

I’ve always loathed that one about cold water minimizing frizz…it never works, and a chilly shower is not the way I like to start the day!
Good thing I didn’t believe the grey hair thing! I wouldn’t need color because I’d be bald!!!!! I’ve always done Myth #6… no more!! Thanks for the great tips!
I always thought lather, rinse, repeat was a ploy to sell more product…Great Article!
I loved reading all the great tips and pretty much knew about most of them, but I did think rinsing hair in cool water would help save color – who knew!
Wow! Blaine really knows his stuff!!
