Outfit Idea : Cozy Romantic

One of the best things about cold weather clothing items? Sweaters! What’s better than that? Sweater dresses! I’m not referring to those thick, turtle neck sweater dresses that don’t flatter anyone, I’m talking about the soft, pretty and girly style of sweater dresses.

I came across such a dress whilst I was browsing through Anthropologie and I did a double take. By itself this sweater dress looks a little dowdy and plain but worn with the right accessories, it can look pretty amazing.

One of the details I love about the Soft As A Feather Sweater Dress ($138) is the flowy style and sleeves. Another fun detail is the exposed zipper on the back, quite risqué without looking tarty. It’s made out of nylon, wool and alpaca so it’s super soft and cozy.

Since the weather has cooled you can wear this with a classic trench but I think it looks best with an equally cozy cardigan like this Old Navy Cable Knit Sweater Coat ($39.50) in Marshmallow White (ivory).

A simple dress like this calls for lots of fun jewelry. Pink and gold immediately came to mind when I saw this dress. I love the combination of grey with pale pink – it’s soft, romantic and ultra feminine.  Layer long gold necklaces like this Forever 21 Love Bug Charm Necklace ($4.80) and Interwoven Satin Chain Necklace ($6.80). Both necklaces have a mix of gold chains, faux ivory coloured pearls and pink roses.

To add a little more pink to the ensemble, wear this pretty Forever 21 Faceted Bead Medallion Ring ($5.80) and these pretty Pink Drop Earrings ($3.80). Normally, I would go without earrings if you’re piling on necklaces but these pink drop earrings are small and dainty enough to not clash or look “too much”.   Also, if you’d rather go without the ring, play up the faux pearl in the necklace with a pretty pearl bracelet like this Sydney Bracelet Set ($5.80) also from Forever 21.

Now you can easily carry a simple clutch with this look but I wanted to give the outfit a little edge, so I chose this lovely Rebecca Minkoff Stud Devote Tote ($695) in Flatiron Grey, which picks up the grey in the sweater dress quite nicely. The bag is a bit casual and fun, too.

Lastly for shoes, wear something neutral like these gorgeous tan Frye Betty Boots ($398). They’ll pick up the gold in the jewelry and set off the whole look beautifully.

Overall, a pretty simple look with a warm and neutral colour palette. You can easily wear this during Spring too. Just go without the sweater coat and wear a pair of gold sandals.
