I’m just getting over a wicked sinus infection (damn those beautiful oak trees and their poisonous pollen!) so I’m easing back into the scents with a modern take on a classic: Red Rose by Comme des Garcons. Supposedly a fave scent of Chloe Sevigny, I was expecting something different and had to wait quite a while for this one to come alive on my skin. Not quite as heady and velvety as many classic rose scents, this does have the sweet/sour raspberry note yet somehow just manages to avoid fruity-floral territory. I like the peppercorn finish, but I could use a bit more of the geranium/freshness. It’s a nice thing to smell, after about five days of no-smells, but it doesn’t flip my lid. $92/100ml. Find it at Luckyscent.
The classic scent of rose gets CdG-ified. Rich raspberry pulp sweetens this floral to mouth-watering heights, while the pink peppercorn bursts in with a spicy kick. Rose is a juicy, barely-legal floral traipsing around in sun, daring you not to stare. We love the sweet ripeness of the fruit mixed with the bright rose, giving this a whole new spin on a scent, face it, we all know well. A hot summer day in the rose garden while a raspberry glace trickles down your wrist never smelled so good!
