Perfume of the Day: King Exceptional Cologne

I got a fun little package today with two of the newest scents from Parfums de Coeur. The first item I tried was “King” – exceptional cologne. I was quite expecting something very pine-y or along the lines of either Old Spice or Cool Water. This does, however, resemble something quite different: citrus, juniper, and generic herbal notes, perhaps lavender or rosemary. The dry down is a little more “old”, if not old school – the sandalwood is quite powdery, and a resinous or balsamic note close out the finish. The copy and branding are a bit confusing – the tag line reads:
Because you work so hard
Because you are so strong
Because you are a real man
You are my KING.
That’s…kind of creepy. I guess Parfums de Coeur had to spend all its money on creating a scent, and had to do all the other work in house to compensate. Since it’s available at Walgreens, the price is commensurate – $14.99 for the largest size.
