Readers Review : Smooth Away

It seems Smooth Away is not delivering what it promises to the customers. Like I said in my initial post regarding Smooth Away, I’ve seen it a lot on TV as one of those cool infomercial. I didn’t write about it until after I saw it featured on The View where co-hosts Sherri Sheppard and Whoppi Goldberg were all over it.
Thanks to our wonderful readers who have given their honest reviews on Smooth Away. I think they’re very helpful and it’s important for all of you to read them so I’ve compiled them here. Find them after the fold…
From Jasmine :
NO THIS STUFF DOESN’T WORK! It’s a definite waste of money, thank goodness it doesn’t cost more than 15 bucks or people wouldn’t put up with the scam… because well most peoplre are fine with blowing 15 bucks on something (well shipping and handling also). If the pads cost like 30 bucks then it would be harder for that scam to last as long and people would be doing more returns and having too many complaints and then the company won’t make any money.
Anyway if you actually pay attention to the commercial, you’ll see that there’s never any true proof that it works, the people in the shots are smooth enough to begin with and you don’t truly notice a “before and after” setting. Except for the shot with the male who is already seen using the pad and then removes it to show it’s smooth… that patch of hair was already smooth, we never saw it hairy because the man’s hand was in the way already using the junk pads.
From July :
dont use it it is nothing the pad has crytals you think it s smooth i used and i hate it is bulls***
From Ashley :
Do not order this. I got mine today and I tried it like 3 minutes ago and it does not that the hair off. after you finish the circles your legs ache. I’d rather shave or use veet or nair honestly. The hair doesn’t bulge. Th pads are more like a mile sand paper and even has 3M written on the back just like sand paper. Not worth the money. What a scam!!!!
A slightly positive review from Sallie, to a similar Smooth Away product :
Years ago my oldest had something very similar to Smooth Away. I have been trying to find the product ever since. It is terrific. I plan on ordering this product. It removes the the hair and leaves you skin beautifully smooth. No nicks, no cuts, no awful smelling chemicals that you have to leave on for a while. I know I sound like a commercial, but it’s true.
So please, keep these reviews in mind when trying out the product. Also, that not every product works for everybody. If you have a positive review them let me know (dexie.wharton@b5media.com) and I’d be glad to share them as well. Any reviews would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi everyone. I bought this yesterday at the “Big E” fair in Massachusettes. I think I may have overpaid for it there, seeing how cheap some of you got it at Walgreens, etc. I just tried it and here is my review. It did remove my hair. I saw a demo yesterday and got some tips from the girl selling it which probably helped. You have to follow the instructions to a tee especially the part about your skin being totally clean and dry, with absolutely no moisturizers, medications, perfumes or other skin products on it. The cleaner and dryer your skin is when you begin, the better your results will be. Once you are dry from the shower, use the pads immediately. Don’t give your skin time to produce replacement oils, from the ones you just washed off. You need to find a pretty pure soap and there are a lot of them out there. I showered using Basis soap which has no moisturizers, perfumes, etc. in it and leaves you squeaky clean. After I was completely dry, I used it on my legs, arms, pits and bikini line. When working on the pits and bikini area, I first applied some baby powder. You have to move the pad in a circular motion, first one way and then the other. You have to apply proper pressure which is the tricky part. There is defintely a learning curve to using this product. On one arm I pressed too hard leaving my skin pink and a bit stinging, like a burn. The other arm feels and looks fine. My pits sting a little and they were the hardest area to remove the hair from with this product because of the fact that it is not a flat area and it is hard to get good leverage on it. I thought the pits are an area where you probably need someone else to do it for you. Even using the smaller pad, it was hard there. It does leave your legs looking dry and ashy but that is corrected with the moisturizer they included. That gets applied once you are all done and you don’t need much of it. It is very thick and goes far. My legs came out the best, overall. My arms are also very smooth and hair-free but like I said, I pressed too hard on one of them and it doesn’t feel so great right now. I am sure that by tomorrow it will (hopefully) be a non-issue. One drawback to the pads is that it makes a bit of a hair/dusty/dead skin mess in your bathroom since all that dry hair and skin flies around when using it. Next time, I will use it in the shower stall, with the door closed, to contain some of that mess. I just will have to make sure not to get my skin wet again once I go back into the stall.
My curiosity about this product is how long it will be before I need to reuse the pads. If I remember correctly, the gal demonstrating yesterday said she uses it every 10 days but who knows what the real time will be. For all I know, she may get waxed and not even use this at home so, I won’t necessarily trust her on that. I will come back and let you all know how long it was until I needed to do it again. I did not try this on my face as I have pretty sensitive facial skin and am happy with my facial hair removal procedure that I currently use. I can also say that it took a relatively long time, compared to shaving. I’m hoping that if I continue to use the pads, that I will get a little more efficient at doing it and I doubt I will be doing my entire hairy self all in one session again, like I did today.
Thanks for reading my review and I will come back and update soon!
my husband bought this product as one of his bday gift.. like 4days ago. i was so excited because i really wanna try this. i was so DISAPPOINTED!! it gives me cuts!– it burns too….. now my arms looks like full of SCABS!! its true. i aint lying… THIS THING DOESNT WORK! what a waste of money.. its like a sand paper!! stinks!
I was given this product as a gift from Grandma. I think it was only 9.99 out of a catalog.
I just tried it after showering and using lotion even though it says not to apply lotion before using. It worked for me without any discomfort whatsoever. I do have very little hair to begin with and don’t need to shave more than 1-2x a week, usually only once. I definitely preferred this to shaving. Especially because I’m currently pregnant and have a hard time reaching my legs in the shower. I can’t imagine it working very well with coarse hair though because the grit is so very fine.
I honestly bought this product expecting it not to work. It removed the hair on my legs great but did not work for fine belly hair and coarse under arm hair. My legs turned out great but I have a little bit of discomfort. Nothing too bad, almost like a really really mild razor burn. The only other problem I have is that it left a layer of “dust” on my legs so I did need to rinse off.
