solutions for heavy calves

I’ve had problems with trying to get my legs into boots, all my adult life in fact!  It was a real chore when I was a horse-crazy teenager to find riding boots that would fit comfortably & wouldn’t make my toes go numb.

A kind store owner once suggested to me (after trying every boot on in the store :-) ) that I buy a pair that fit my feet and have a boot maker add an elastic gusset to the inside of the calf.

Bingo!  I could now where tall, elegant boots and no-one was the wiser.

I found a lucious pair of Clarks “Indigo” boots last summer.

They were mid-calf burgundy suede, with – be still my heart – dusty rose flowers embroidered up the shaft of the boot.

Unfortunately, they were also out of my price range (I decided being able to pay my rent was more important at that time)

I kept on watching the store – they marked them down 10%, then 20% as summer ended… and finally – after months of those boots sitting in the store, they marked them down to 75% off the original price (I love Boxing Day sales!)

I grabbed them – but then realized that the boots wouldn’t zip up all the way!

I wasn’t going to leave them behind, so I trotted off to my local shoe-repair store…

And in 24 hours and $35 later I had a gorgeous pair of boots I could actually wear!
