Jeffrey Campbell is not quite indie. But not quite corporate evil, either, and since he makes such great rip-offs of couture favorites and edgy, embellished basics, we’re gonna give him the benefit of the doubt by way of shout out. Love these boots, Jeffrey Campbell.

Well, they’re a little bit country and a little bit rock-n-roll, and a whole lot totally kick ass. Love the stud design and the multi-grommeted straps. Not to mention the buckles. Yay for buckles! The heel is just about just right for not making your feet hurt after wearing them all day, and the smooth leather should stand up to some pretty major ass whuppin’. Avaialble for $198 from OakNYC.

I feel I need to preface my comments by saying I’m not a hater, nor a judger of anyone who wears Jeffrey Campbell or doesn’t mind that he rips off styles from the couture designers. But I have to say I am absolutely perplexed at people, especially those in the fashion world, not having a problem with this. I absolutely agree that fashion should be accessable to everyone at all price points. But does that absolutely require wearing a near exact replica of some couture designer? I would spend $400 for one good pair of great unique boots than $200 apiece on some rip-offs.
To me design is like art. Sure, the artists are influenced by each other. But an outright copy is illegal in the art world, and I believe it should be in the design world as well.
BTW these boots are almost an EXACT copy of Chloe 2008.
FYI The Chloe boots were $1000 per pair. Not $400. And so much couture goes out quickly. So wait a year and get a cute look-alike for $200. Sounds good to me ! Besides, there’s has ALWAYS been a trickle dowb design influence in fashion. Nealry everything you buy at a department store had a couture influence. Except basic Levis. Cheers!
