Top 5: one note, five great fragrances.

First,  let’s get something straight.  5 is basically the best number ever.  It’s like a perfect 10, but half as much work.  It’s also a lot better than a trifecta.  There are a lot of things I have to say about the number 5, but I’ll spare you.  We’re here to talk about the perfume.

Basically, here’s what we’re going to do.  I am going to pick a ‘note’ or a single scent that many popular fragrances have in common.  Then we’ll discuss five fragrances that have this particular note, but showcase it in many different ways.  If you think I left out your favorite fragrance that has this note, let me hear about it!

And the first ‘note’ will be….tobacco!  Since this is Richmond and all.  Tobacco gets a bad rep, and perhaps it deserves a lot of it – after all, there’s nothing attractive about the smell of cigarette smoke.

However, if you’ve ever walked into a humidor or had a grandpa that smoked a pipe, you know the rich, seductive sweetness that mellow tobacco leaves can have.  And the scent of a hookah (or nargile) parlor is dense with fruit-flavored sheesha, apple tea, and honeyed baklava covered in pistachios.

So…let’s begin!
