Top 5 Sunglasses Styles for Summer

The sun is finally starting to come out and shine on all of those spring flowers, which means that it’s time to get a new pair of sunglasses. I absolutely love wearing sunglasses…a good pair can basically make anyone feel like a glamorous celebrity. Oh and they are also good for sun protection as well! Here are my picks for top 5 sunglasses styles for summer 2009:
- Plastic Aviators – the update. We all know that aviators have been in style for quite a few years now, but this year there are creative new takes on the traditional aviator that are made with plastic frames. The plastic frames create a bulkier look, but still maintain the similar lens shape from the metal frame “Top Gun”-style aviators. Aviator styles are great because they are usually very affordable!
- Bold Colors – the expression. I love the freshness of colors that are emerging this summer on frames and lenses. You can find every style of frame in every shade of every color…so pick your favorite color and express yourself! I love this matte aqua color on the Ray-Ban Wayfarers.
- Vintage – the flashback. More and more celebrities are being spotted wearing amazing sunglasses that I want to get for myself…and then I find that they are one-of-a-kind vintage sunglasses! So you can rummage through vintage stores to find that one perfect pair, or you can count on the designers to do their research and produce gorgeous vintage-inspired looks. I will go with that second option.
- Unique Shape – the creativity. Some new styles take traditional elements in material, color, and size and with just a slight shift on the shape of the lens create an entirely new look. The subtle change in shape can be stunning and very contemporary. My favorite sunglasses right now are the Prada Butterfly Sunglasses, which have a uniquely shaped lens that I think we will start to see everywhere…
- Oversized – the staple. The go-to sunglasses for fashionable women for many years has been the oversized lenses…and don’t expect them to go out of style anytime soon. These sunglasses are still flattering, functional, timeless, and definitely make you feel like a celebrity. Go ahead and invest in a pair because you will be wearing them for years to come.

Good choices! I like the “Unique Shape” ones. I would ad another pair that would fall in the “vintage” category : the Clubmaster Ray Ban. Not oversized, but pretty cool and fresh with the new colors this year.
Love your blog. Very on-trend. I especially like your bold colors
