War over “Peace”?

I read this blog entry and was tres saddened. Even the title depressed me. In short, Bond No9 (one of my favorite brands) is suing an independent perfumer for calling her scent “Peace on Earth”. You might recall that they launched “Scent of Peace” a few years back. The profits from the scent go to charity.  It sounds like this is not the first time they have threatened legal action against a perfumer.

To be honest I had never heard of Liz Zorn before yesterday. I’m really not sure why Bond would threaten litigation on someone like this, and to top it all off, the company spokesperson appeared on Dr. Phil, giving away (among other products) bottles of Scent of Peace. I can’t imagine how LZP could have handled things any better. For now the scent is renamed “Solstice”. I’ve half a mind to place a big order out of solidarity…..I wonder if Creative Scentualizations got a C&D letter about Peace Comes From Within?   Or maybe they can’t pick on someone their own size.
