Celeb Look

Get Her Look: Ellen Pompeo’s Hair at the SAG Awards.

Ellen Pompeo shined on Sunday night at the SAG Awards. Her gown, shoes, makeup, and hair were all top notch.
We got the low-down from her Stylist, Harry Josh, who is the creative consultant for the John Fredia Collection.

“Ellen was looking for a modern, cool, hip style – not your typical old Hollywood up-do,” said Harry, who also works with the likes of Gisele and Fergie. “We went through tons of runway looks and decided on a very sexy bed head style. I wanted to make Ellen look effortlessly gorgeous, like she just rolled right out of bed and threw on an evening gown and a pair of Christian Louboutin pumps.”

Because it was pouring all day in LA, Harry began by washing Ellen’s hair with the new Weather Works by Frizz-Ease Weather-Proofing Shampoo and Conditioner from the John Frieda Collection, then smoothing on a dab of the Weather Works by Frizz-Ease Weather-Proofing Crème Sealant. This gave her hair a protective barrier from the inevitable frizz caused by humidity and damp weather.

After washing Ellen’s hair, Harry began by blowing each section dry with his fingers and building it up with lots of hairspray. This look depends on the right product,” instructs Harry. “You need a hairspray that is very light and not at all sticky.” Harry chose the John Frieda Sheer Blonde Crystal Clear Hairspray, his favorite because it holds the hair in place while still leaving it manageable. It also won’t create lots of build up that will dull Ellen’s blonde hair (which Harry colored last week).

Next, Harry continued to spray each section, let it dry, and then crumbled it with his hands, making it moldable. “The goal is to make the hair look as messy as possible,” says Harry. Once he had gone over her entire head, he pulled it all into a messy side knot with a very high crown. He pulled layer on top of layer, giving the look lots of detail with wispy flyaways that would catch the light. The end result was an understated and sexy style.

“I think a perfect French twist or up-do ages a person,” Harry comments. “A look like this is very hip and hot. It’s simple to do and doesn’t take expensive products or styling tools. This look can be worn with a evening gown to an award show or to lunch in a pair of jeans and a tank.”

Gorgeous!
