Beauty Beat: Spend Wisely

April 3, 2007 by Christina Jones

Do you have to pay a fortune for your beauty products? I really do believe you get what you pay for, but you don’t have to sell your first born for a good product. I buy neither the highest, nor the lowest end of the scale because I believe the best products usually lie somewhere in the middle. There are a few items that I will spend more money on – hair conditioner, facial cleanser, foundation, eye shadow, hair spray, moisturizer, basecoat and top coat. The things that I can buy cheaper and not suffer -you know I don’t allow myself to suffer – are lipstick, shampoo, blush, nail polish color, toner, mascara and eyeliner. For the pricier products, educate yourself – ask for recommendations, read product reviews, and then go spend your hard earned money, and hopefully you will come home with something you love. :)

I just tried the generic version of a great curl cream for curly hair from Cost Cutters. It smelled like oranges so I exchanged it for the real product that was only $1 more. I am much happier.

I also find that when I don’t use my Mary Kay on a regular basis, my skin becomes leather like. It is DEFINITELY worth the money to me.

I believe with some products, “you get what you pay for,” but otherwise, sometimes it’s hard to tell. I get a body cream at the dollar store that I really like (cocoa butter!), yet I pay like $49 for a big jug of Bumble and Bumble conditioner.

  3. There are always some gems out there – but for the most part I do agree with you, Rachel, you do get what you pay for. In most things actually. ;)
