Beauty Junkies: Inside Our $15 Billion Obsession With Cosmetic Surgery

Alex Kuczynski was a style reporter with the New York Times who found herself sucked in to the artificial beauty world:

And as I wrote, I personally became more and more interested. I began to make sure I was getting Botox and micro-dermabrasion and having my hair dyed blond every four weeks. I even went through a phase where I had acrylic nails.

*Gasp* not acrylic nails? LOL Anyway, Alex has a book out called Beauty Junkies, about the “pursuit of medicalized beauty.” In support of the book, she has an interview in todays USA Today that is an interesting read. What do you think about all this “medicalized beauty?” I don’t think its much of a secret what I think, but I don’t consider a little haircolor and acrylic nails in the same class as Botox injections. But thats just me. ;)
