Concealing Under Eye Circles

March 27, 2009 by Aly Walansky

Late nights, early mornings, and way too much stress has created an issue where I am in the prime of my life and have under eye circles!

cancellationconcealerClearly, this cannot remain the case. So, I turned to Mally Roncal of Mally Beauty for advice on what I can do to remedy this situation – fast!

If you share my (sad, sad!) problem, here’s what Mally says you should be doing right now:

* Take a flat concealer brush and dab concealer underneath the eyes. (Try Mally Beauty Cancellation Concealer System).
* Then, gently begin to smooth it under your eye.
* Only put the concealer where you need it. For example, only dab the concealer where you have darkness, avoiding the lines as that skin is lighter there. (Remember, less is more!)
* If you are feeling a little extra tired, dab a bit on the inside of the bridge of your nose or apply shadow to inner corners of the eyes. Soft pinks, golds and silvers work best.
* Set the concealer with translucent powder. Try Mally Beauty Eye Light Setting Powder, which sets the concealer and brightens under the eye.

Well I am certainly going to try this. Sometimes I think I would be easier to conceal my face as those under-eye circles just want to hang on all day long.

  2. anna says:

i use YSL touche eclat and while it doesnt conceal much per se, it does a nice job of making my undereye area more radiand and less tired looking

I am definitely going to have to try this. I have a sleep disorder (obviously, I’m up right now at 3 am), so unfortunately I have circles under my eyes more often than not. Thanks for the tip!

  4. Kirsten says:

Man, my eyes could have used this yesterday. I tried to use concealer but it seemed nothing was working. And I love the way everyone comments all day about how tired I look!

  5. Erin Walsh says:

This is one thing that I always need help with. Currently I’m using my mineral makeup with a concealer brush, followed by a concealer product lightly dabbed on. It works fairly well, but I’d like to try other methods to see if they work even better.

  6. Alice C says:

Fabulous tips and instructions! My entire family has been blessed with the icky undereye circles, and we have tried everything. Hiding them can be a pain sometimes, but with the right products and the right application it can work. Thanks for the tips!

I have been using this an almost all of Mally’s products since she appeared on QVC about 5 years ago. I LOVE her looks and products. You really can acheieve the look she is showing you with the products and tools she provides and they look great. I have ALWAYS had a horrible time finding a concealer that works for me color or texture-wise but this one does. And the range of shades works for almost everyone I know. This is definately a worth-while purchase. Go Mally!

I too share the wicked under eye curse! Oh mother nature why? This makes perfect sense and I can’t belive the difference in my and others appearence when one can actually conquer these crappy circles – so I am all over this post like white on rice ;)

  30. Jennifer M says:

As a mom of a four month old who feels like I haven’t had a decent night’s sleep since I was about 5 months pregnant, I am dismayed to see the dark circles under my eyes that I will never get used to seeing! I will definitely try these application tips as I have tried using a concealer, but it just makes me look like a reverse raccoon (instead of dark eyes, I end up with obvious light unnatural looking circles under my eyes!)

  31. marsha says:

The problem with concealer is that no matter what…. in daylight it always looks obvious. I think a brightening cream or lotion works better & then there are no crinkles!

All eye creams seem to come in tiny .5oz / 15ml containers – which is a waste of money…i like the Made from Earth Olive Night creme because its a large 2 ounce container and has worked WONDERS under my eyes and wrinkles on the sides of my face.

I really enjoy the Olive Night creme – I use it as an under eye cream as recommended by their website. My routine has been putting some of the cream along my lower lid and then gently rubing under my eyes before i go to bed at night. The cream stays put, and doesn’t get into my eyes. It also doesn’t have any fumes or aromas to make my eyes water since it is organic and chemical free. I’m the one whose eyes will tear if our cat wanders next to me and rubs my shoulder, so my eyes are generally rather sensitive.

I use this each morning and evening. I really can tell the difference, that my eyes look less tired, that the skin looks more healthy. And really, it makes sense. All skin needs moisture to stay healthy. That skin beneath and around your eyes is extremely thin, so if any skin on your body is going to show dehydration first, it would be your eyes. People look at your eyes all the time when they talk to you, so they notice that pretty quickly.

The downside of course is that eye cream is rather pricey – but again, for the above reasons, I don’t think it’s as bad as it might seem at first. You use tiny amounts. The cream is specially formulated to be safe for use near your eyes, and to be light enough to absorb into that delicate skin. You really DO need to take care of that skin area in a special way, since the skin is so delicate. And it’s well worth it to do that, since people who talk to you are generally looking at your face and your eyes when they do so.

I tend to be frugal, but this is one of the areas where I think taking good care of yourself is worth it in the long run. I bought from the website because I believe they only have stores in London and New York – highly recommended for healthy women looking for an under eye with proven results!

  33. mary m says:

Ladies, the Made from Earth Olive Night (eye) cream does exactly what it says. Finally!

Apparently it was one of the Glamour magazine’s top products for 2007, so I reluctantly bought it. I have dark circles, puffiness and fine lines. I used to keep my concealer next to my lipstick in my purse. I model on a national shopping channel at all hours of the day and night, and would have to cake on concealer to hide my under-eye scaryness on air. I tossed my concealer!

I might dab a little light colored eyeshadow under my eyes for extra brightening but the Made from Earth “Olive Night Creme” has completely taken away my dark circles and puffiness. I hope they never stop making it!
