Did you know?

L'Oreal

I have been reading a lot of information about L’Oreal lately with their purchase of The Body Shop, and thought you might be interested in a list of other skin/hair brands, all owned by L’Oreal:

Maybelline, Lancome, Shu Uemura, Kiehl’s, Biotherm, Vichy, Cacharel, Armani, Ralph Lauren, Helena Rubenstein, The Body Shop (coming soon), Redken, Matrix, Biotherm, Garnier

What does this mean to you?  Not that much really.  More than anything, it should remind you that so much in the world of brands is in your head.  I imagine there is more than a few similarities in the Loreal drugstore skin care and the Lancome skin care.  Just remember that when you shop.  L’Oreal has the research behind them – there is no reason that they wouldn’t be putting the benefits into their drugstore lines as well as their (highly overpriced, IMHO) Lancome brand.

I knew about Lancome, but none of the others.

I hope that with the purchse of The Body Shop that some of Anita Roddick’s causes don’t get abandoned. She is such a believer in responsible product development and giving back to the world.

  2. That is what I have been reading about so much lately – there are a whole lot of people who are outraged by this, and shocked that she sold to L’Oreal, who has apparently had total disregard for these ethics issues that The Body Shop has promoted for so long (and so well). L’Oreal says they want to make some changes influenced by the ethics of The Body Shop, but that remains to be seen.

Good to see you around again FlyGirl, it has been awhile! ;)

Heck no! I had no idea that L’Oreal owned all of those subsidiaries. (Especially Garnier, Maybeline and Armani.) That suprised me. L’Oreal is notorious for animal testing and this is something that Anita is (or was?) fully against. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how this is going to work out.
