Do you use a Makeup Sponge?

Beauty Basic Sponge | Style Manila - Fashion, Beauty, Shopping, Manila Street FashionLet’s take a minute and talk about makeup application tools. Do you ladies use a makeup sponge?

The reason why I’m curious is that I’ve always preferred using my fingers to apply makeup. I know there are individuals use sponges and makeup brushes to apply makeup. Personally, I use brushes for applying eye shadows, gel liners and blushes, on eyebrows and occasionally on lips but I rarely (and I mean RARELY) use makeup sponges.

However, since I’m always finding my hands busy with makeovers, I’m beginning to see the benefits of using sponges. I guess I’m used to the texture and contours of my face and skin so the need to use a sponge has never been really big. But encountering skin types that are not like my own has called for the use of one, not to mention, it’s more hygienic (esp for ladies who are very particular with people touching their skin). That’s why I thought it’s quite practical to buy me a few of them sponges to use on future makeovers.

Beauty Basics Makeup Sponge, Php 39.75 (aroung $0.80), PCX Boutique (Power Plant Mall, Rockwell, Makati City).

Now, I’m wondering if you ladies can share a bit of your personal preferences when it comes to this matter. Do you prefer your makeup artist to use a sponge rather than her fingers when applying makeup on you? Do you use makeup sponges when you apply your own makeup? Can you tell me why you think it’s better to use a sponge? I’d really love to hear your thoughts!

On days, I am using liquid foundation / cream, I definitely do reach out for sponges, especially the triangle ones as I find it easier to blend, and reach out the “hard to reach areas” . Like most people..the only negative part is “wastage” but the coverage definitely is pretty!

I use sponges and change them often. I can’t conceive of women using the same sponge over and over. I think if used fresh and clean, they are more sanitary.

I use a sponge only when i use stick makeup, like my max factor pan stick foundation. I can swipe the stick on my skin and blend with my fingers, but I find it easier to use the sponge to take the product from the stick then apply to my face. When I use liquid makeup I use a stippling brush or my fingers!!

I don’t use makeup sponges that often. I prefer using a foundation brush for liquid foundation. It’s much easier to keep clean than using a sponge, IMO.

Even my cream to powder foundations, I still prefer using a foundation brush over the sponge that comes with the compact.

Hi! I think it will depend on the make-up that you will apply. For liquid foundation it is best to use either a foundation brush or a sponge. But if it’s a mousse type you must apply using a finger, no need for a sponge. And for cream foundation to a matte finish definitely a sponge is essential.
